Has been added to the Vintage Commercial Fluorescent Light Fixture Gallery...
This is it, the last Publix that I know of to be torn down or modernized.....No more of these Fluorescent light fixtures exist anymore that I know of. Have the building is already torn down. I drove buy to look, and I didn't notice any of the light fixtures lying around. I wonder if they took them down before demolition....
What a shame. The store me and my grandmother use to shop at. she died in 2005.........if anyone has any info on these fixtures, I want to hear it. I did search on google and no such luck...

Our Publix looked pretty much like the one in the picture that you said was from the 1980s. I don't think that picture is from the 80s, it would have to be mid 90s at least, because the cars don't look like 80s. Your Publix looks like it had been moderenized some. Prior to the remodel around 1998, ours hadn't had much if any remodeling done to it since at least the 80s. It was built in 1962, and had those same light fixtures and big round silver vents.
The green and white concrete floors were terazzo. Our Publix had them and they covered them with gray and white vinyl tiles. The terazzo had rust stains and was in bad shape. However, the Publix in the next town was built in 1984, and still has the terazzo floors and they are in great condition.
I've noticed many new Publixes and Walmarts, etc have no dropped ceilings and with those big round lights. I don't like it. It's a cost saving measure, I guess.

The Publix in the pictures that I took, looked just like that as far back as I can remember, my grandma and me use to shop there before she moved out of her house in 2000. It does look like it has been modernized at some point, it probably was remodeled a little in the early 1980s, I'm guessing. The one we use to live from right up the street looked like the picture from the 1980s. I don't remember if it had those big vents or not. They remodeled in mid 1997....That picture looks like it has some mid 1980s cars in it, and the other in front of the store I can't really tell, but I only did a quick study on the picture before putting it up. The truck maybe a 90s model, but can't tell due to being blocked by another car.....You might be right....
You or someone said that those lights said Southern Lighting on them. I did a search and the only thing that comes up are galleries with fancy lighting...

Ya, I would like to go back. I tried going by myself today but the wrecking company was there till dark. I would like to get one more light fixture. But I don't see that happening, by the time it would be safe to go in, the fixtures will probably be gone or smashed up....
