That box between the light fixtures almost looks like there is some sort of mirror or camera lense on the bottom.

Thats what i was thinking, but i think back in the 50s, that technology was not there. I was thinking a back up battery light..

That would make perfect sense about the battery-operated emergency lights; you're right, they probably wouldn't have had security cameras around in most stores in the 50s. I do like those old Publix lights. ;D

I LOVE those grey round vents, does anyone know why there was always an Eckerd right next to publix? did they have some kind of deal together back then? the old eckerd/cvs was just moved out of the old publix shopping center in boca and is now a Pet Supermarket

oh and as for those big square boxes in the ceiling, i belive those are the return-air vents for the ac
