I like the XLP a lot too and it will be sad to see it go . Hopefully, sometime in the near future, Casablanca will regain control of its destiny and become an independent company again.

You have brand new Casablancas? Yes, I've bought all of my fans new. Everyone else in my family insists on Hunter Originals (which I love; they are great fans). However, I like the Casablanca a bit better, so I use Comfort-Touch Panamas.

With the XLP being discontinued, I wonder if the only remaining 18 pole high quality motor, the Emerson K55, has plans to be eliminated from their fan line any time soon. I sincerely hope not, but given what's happened with Hunter and Casablanca, perhaps it's only a matter of time. Anyone know of anything?

Emerson is still making new fans with K55's, like the hidious "Kitty Hawk"

Was the Emerson Maui Bay the first fan to have those ugly wicker/palm leaf blades? Because that would be one noble thing about that design, if the first fan to have it was K55.

That was 20 years ago whan they started making those fans.

I didnt mean the Fanimation palm leaf blades, those are a different design. Besides the original Fanimations had the side-mounted motors. I was talking about the straw-type leaf-shaped blades on the Maui Bay, Hampton Bay also has a fan like that as does Casablanca. Was that Emerson's original design?

There was one installed in a lighting store with that escalade fan that looks like a guth fan. They had a wall control and a remote control working both fans together. I turned the fan on and it moved quite alot of air for a fan that only has one blade.

...it moved quite alot of air for a fan that only has one blade. Remember, sir, that less blades = more air, hence industrial fans always having 3 blades and the first ceiling fans having had 2.

Remember, sir, that less blades = more air, hence industrial fans always having 3 blades and the first ceiling fans having had 2. Well I think there's a limit to this . . . I somehow doubt that one blade is more efficient than 2 or 3. It comes down to the weight of the assembled blades and their total surface area vs: the motor speed and torque. So of course plenty of 6 blade fans can therefore move more air than certain 4 blade fans. And so on.

It all depends on how slanted the blades, More slanted the more the fan pushes air, Also the more slanted the blades are, the more the motor has to work. A ceiling fan that has alot of hourse power with a deeper slant in the blades pushes alot of air..........

Yes, I've known that from the beginning. more blades move more air but you have to have alot of torque and horsepower to move more. i know that from my experience in the HVAC department
