Hum, interesting. I can't tell which location that one was, nor which part of Ft Lauderdale that is in, but that footage is 31 years old, so I would imagine things would look different for the most part.. Our Publix stores looked like that here only the lettering was not in blocks. Lit up green letters is what they were.. I always looked at how the front panels and thought it was neat that they were made with rocks. I remember the last one around here, was the one in Lantana next to I-95, it was around 2003 when it was modernized, only this one was completely demolished and built the new one in it's place..

i read that was at the northridge plaza on dixie and commercial, i see there is a publix there but looks nothing like that now. must have been a 70s era publix since it didnt have the V in the front, i do too like the rock front. edit: here is one that looks just like in the video, but up in tallahasse closed in 2006, looked really run down and retro, but i like www.flickr.com/photos/shawnson/sets/72057594123839928/

Yup, that is 70's a Publix. Those are the second styles after the original with the V.. I think Publix made it around here in the 70's. We never had the original stores in this area, Just the second style and the recent one that was torn down which looked to be it's own style, unless it was updated at one time, but I think I recall it always looking like that..

all the 70's stores like the one in the movie used the old 60's style lighting, at least all the ones that use to be around this area.. The one on Flicker from Tallahassee looks to be a combination of a 70's and 80's style.. Looks like that one was built around the transition time the style was again updated.. The 80s stores has the higher ceiling in the middle.. There's still a few of those around here, but not with the rock front 70's design on the outside..

Here's an old HBO preview video I came across, one of the movies (Super Fuzz) in the preview shows footage that appears to be filmed inside of a really old Publix.. It looks to be the Southern Lighting fixtures at 1:36.. Wow that's 3 movies I know of so far a Publix is in.. Publix seemed pretty popular on the big screen..
