There's another Publix that I have taken pictures of.. We are going to try and rescue the fixtures and the Vents out of this one.. Check it out under lighting gallery under publix. has an original pic from the 70s of the same publix shopping center

Cool! I saw advertisements of Publix stores when I was in Orlando, that's all I saw of them though.

Sounds about right with the Google maps. The old Publix in my area is still there in the Google maps satellite and that was torn down in august of 2007.. Here's the link to where i got the photo of the original, There's posts on there of them talking about the Margate Publix www.pbase.com/donboyd/image/81070997

Interesting... I found out last night there is still a Publix that looks like this and still operating in Miami Beach. It has the big round vents and the old lighting fixtures.. We should go and take pictures.. I found it on www.flickr.com type Publix and you'll find tones of pictures including the Margate Publix.. Someone else around here likes these old Publix stores too..

Good to see there is a classic one still in use, they should def keep at least one old style publix open. theres lots of retro style diners out there today (purposely themed that way), why not make ppl feel like they're doing their grocery shopping in the 60s too

I agree.. The one in Miami Beach could not be expanded anyways, roads on each side

Well this just in, i emailed the city of margate and they replied back with this:
I received the e-mail that you sent to the Building Department concerning the old Publx plaza. The plans at this time are to tear down the plaza in the next few months. We have some environmental issues that we must first resolve before we will move forward with the demo. If you have any questions please feel free to contact my office.
