Really weird that they reused the fans, considering all the other fixture changes, albeit not the first time I've seen it in a Subway. We had a location that underwent renovation in maybe 2003 and everything but the fans changed, they kept the 52" PB GE Vent fans. That location is no longer a Subway, but I think the fans are still in there. Weird but positively weird.

I went to Vieux-Montréal (Old Montreal). You probably remember my pics of June with the little four bladed Nadairs and the ivory three bladed 4 Seasons. Here's some white Canarm that I was not able to get a picture last time. It's the same place that have the three bladed 4 Seasons. They are two of theses Canarms along with the ivory 4 Seasons. They were spinning so it was hard to see the blades but they really look like the could be the rare Canarm fourth generation. Theses would be about 1987-1988. The last Hong Kong made ones. Here's some color for you. A gift shop have an interesting variety of five old spinners. They were two of theses early to mid 1980s Canarm second generation 140 cm painted in yellow, green and dark blue. A very ugly color combination! Notice the four tubes 1970s fluorescent fixture behind it for those who likes older fluorescent fixtures. Another Canarm second generation all painted in dark blue. This one have the circle in the middle of the motor. At the back was this rare 1970s SMC K56 (Wilcorp model) in dark blue. It's not a nut in the middle, it's just stained. I love theses! Check out the wideness of the blades. They are pretty rare and I think they are among some of the oldest spinners in North America. The 5th fan was a replacement Canarm CP56 from the early 1990s with the plain blades also painted in yellow, green and dark blue. A Mexican restaurant that was closed (which is why the picture is dark) have at least two of theses early 1980s Enredco 120 cm spinners. I remember going to that restaurant in 2005. There is a also a recent brushed nickel Nadair in that restaurant. I might try to go to that restaurant when it will be open to get a better picture because the fans looks very interesting. Like a lot of Enredco, they have a special type of final as you can see. The blades appears to be plain and the motor brown. I hate that they painted the top part of the fan in white. It's impressive all the different variations that they offered theses fans in. There is something in the portable section too.

Remind me, if those Union-made Canarms are the second gen, what's the first? LOVE the 4 blader. Well I'm actually not sure which version comes before which one because they look like they could have been sold at the same time. The other version that I suspect to be the real first one is the one like I have using TAT parts. I'm guess I think this would be the first one because the it uses wider blades than the Union made version and wider blades are often associated with being older but considering that mine was made in 1983, that would mean that theses Unions versions were made after 1983 and they look like they could be 1970s-1981 ish. Only if the Union version was dated it would help. www.vintageceilingfans.com/membergalleries/gallery/showimage.php?i=760&c=134

This version of Canarm was indeed made by Union. Sometimes the motor is labled Union and other times Evergo but they usually have a Canarm sticker on the lower canopy to indicate their commercial brand. Yes theses Wilcorp SMC's uses more specific canopies. The top one is pretty tall for a SMC canopy. Notice how tall the bottom step is. The lower canopy is also different. It's not a rounded/dome shaped like the current version. It's more cylinder shaped. It's possible that it could be 1960s because Wilcorp sold them as early as 1965. I think the model number of theses is not even K56. It could be something else. When the fan is installed like this, I cannot tell if the downrod is threaded or not. Other than the fact that I love theses, there're many reasons of why I would like to find one as you can tell. They are pretty mysterious. I saved a picture of one that was for sale on Kijiji out of my reach and overpriced. The picture was taken while the fan was on the floor uninstalled and we can see it has a metal tag on the top of the motor.

Those Evergo/Unions would be early 80s, possibly late 70s. Not after 83. I have no way to date TATs unfortunately.

I have no way to date TATs unfortunately. based on the 6 unions i have, the ones with rings are older.. they are quite hard to date but usually the capacitor size and shape gives a hint if it is newer or older.. metal tags on the unions are definitely 70s, all ringed unions have holes for the metal tag even though it has a sticker.. the ringless ones dont have those holes if i got a proper pic of the 60s K56, i will post it in the sightings thread

I would have to pull out all my motors to determine what year they switched from the bell canopy version to the plunger canopy version, I believe it was 82 or 83. The earliest Unions I've seen did not have the circle in the center, if that's what you're referring to. When it comes to the motors with the indented sides, such as Jean posted, at some point they switched from cast iron to cast aluminum which is much lighter.

It seems that the unions here and in US have some difference in which design was manufactured when and the labelling.. I noticed lately that any fans with these designs are called SMC automatically by the owners or people here

I'd love to learn more about Unions/Evergos around the world. The fans appear to be the same except for the canopies in a lot of cases.
Do you guys get the pointed motor type i.e. very early Gold Lines?

The pointed motors in UAE are extremely rare as far as i know... i only encountered one in UAE which was a TAT.. i've seen some pakistani fans with pointed motors in saudia and many TATs with pointed motors in syria

I went to Rosemont again with a friend and also with Philippe this time. There's was a lot more cool fans that I did not saw last time. A book store had four Canarms from the 1990s and a 1980s 4 Seasons. Does anyone knows for sure if theses are really Canarm? Because Nadair made something very similar at some point too. It's either Canarm or Nadair but I'm leaning more for Canarm. Canarm sold something like this at Rona until recently. A second one that was on medium. The two other Canarm are theses black and white fans. I love how the Canarm version of theses is so chunky. The 4 Seasons is a Galaxy 90 cm that seems to be a 1984 model. It's the white version of the chrome one that I got from Jesse. It's a 3-speed model with the long switch housing. I guess the reverse pull chain on the other side is cute very short. The installation is very cool. It's on a small vaulted ceiling above where is the door to go to the basement is. It was on high. here's my picture of the canarm.(well the lighting was awful :/.....)

Thanks for posting theses too.
The Canarm CP56 replacement is the 5th generation from the early 1990s. Notice that the blades are a little twisted.
The picture of the black & white 1990s Canarm you have is much better than mine.
