Where did you get those pics? I can only assume you went in to post-trematic shock when you saw them minus the trematic part. Well, not quite. I mean, neither is the exact fan I was looking for, and even though the white fan is jsut the wrong finish, it doesnt look very cool in pieces like that . . . so that dampened it a bit. I suppose if, out of the blue, someone had sent me a picture of a brown and brass one fully assembled, I would have short-circuited. But the fact that I found any pictures at all has been long overdue. Seen them fans before, Matthew?

After you get it then you can continue Nope, from a guy I met on eBay. Adrian will continually be looking for Taras for me, no matter how old he gets, or at least I hope and expect so! I hope to find plenty, so even if the first ones dont come from him, he still better on the job! Naw Adrian's a really good friend and I appreciate him, my teasing is a sign of affection. He knows that.

"Trematic" is not a word. Traumatic is, however Trauma, traumatic. Remember that Perhaps I was having tremors. Eh? And PLEASE keep your grammar corrections away from my Tara (thread)! We dont want your nerdiness to be confused with the coolness of the Tara. And yes, nerdiness is a word, it means "Pierce". Ba-dum CHING!

dan i know this isn't much help but when i went to eureka springs arkansas, i saw a tara. james From talking to James today, it seems like the Tara he saw in Arkansas was the same or similar to the one I am looking for, he says it looked like the white one in the photos. James, do you remember what finish it is? I forgot to ask.

As for the American Lantern, I meant Arkansas, not Arizona. Thanks to Perrey for pointing that out.

The new updated Tara pictures have sparked my memory from the original lumberyard. www.geocities.com/mt_spiffy/lumberyard.htmlYou can see in the pictures where the fan was located, over the stairwell to the balcony. The balcony along the left side of the store and turned the corner to also include the front of the store, over the cashiers. There was an additional stairwell leading up to it from the front of the store, no fan over that one. At the time this was the only fan installed in the store. I had actually been in the lumberyard several times before, and seen the fan display. It was originally freestanding in the center of the store, then moved to underneath some offices in the back-left corner of the balcony, and recently moved to it's current location. My dad bought me my first ceiling fan from the center fan display (blue Design House hugger). And yet I never actually noticed the fan hanging over the stairwell. Presumably because I had never been up in the balcony before, and who'd think to look (from the floor) for a fan there? Some time when I was 5 or so, my parents decided they wanted to build a "play house" our back yard for my brother and I. And so they set up a meeting with one of the engineers from the lumberyard, to draw up plans for it, order materials, etc. The engineer had a desk in a cubical in the balcony. So my parents brought us up the front stairway (no fan over it) and across the balcony and-- there it was! Running on a medium speed or so. They set us up on some chairs with color books to keep us occupied, however the chairs were facing the stairs with the fan, and so the coloring books were the least of my concern. There was a woman working in the desk right next to the fan (note where the control is in the pictures) and I asked her just about every question I could think of. One of the questions was about the knob on the fan, "no that doesnt control it, we control it back here. I can make it go really slow want to see?" And she turned the control all the way to the right. The fan slowed down, all right, and stopped! "Oh I guess it doesnt go slow any more." -One of the other questions I asked her was "does the fan have cane?" Because while it was running the blades looked as though they had white centers. She said "no it's just dirty" and when the fan stopped I could see it was in fact dust on the blades causing it to appear as though it had cane. -One other thing I remembered, through the vent holes, resting against the bottom grill, I remember seeing at least one if not two yellow Wing Guard wire nuts. It was the first time I had seen visible wiring inside a fan housing and it intrigued me. From memory I thought it had the foam grill like on Emersons, and a piece of it had lifted up exposing the wire nuts. However the Tara(s) I've seen have mesh grill rivited to the bottom, like Casablancas. Also I havent since seen a Tara with yellow wire nuts. -I also remembered the flywheel was very noticable to me and extended out of the housing. This was significant, the only other fan I had seen like this were those 6 blade Design Houses (concidentally sold at this same store). I remember thinking "it has the motor bit that sticks out like those 6 blade fans". I had seen other fans with flywheels, such as Casablancas, before, but those flywheels were either flush with or recessed inside the housing, and so I didnt really acknoledge them. *at this time I could only tell the difference between a flywheel fan and a spinner motor fan if the flywheel stuck out of the housing* which at this time, I had only seen on the 6 blade Design Houses, and this Tara. -I remembered thinking the bell canopy was much larger than I had seen on any other fan. I still have trouble with the fact that I dont remember the blade bracket design AT ALL. Now that I've seen the actual Tara brackets, it's like "yeah those look right" but you'd think something that unique I would remember. I remembered every other detail about the fan. -One of my favorite things about the fan was the plain brass sideband. I hadnt seen, on any other fan, brown housing with a plain brass sideband, so I thought that was unique to the Tara (and perhaps that was the only finish they were offered in). When KMart started selling black SMCs with brass sidebands, I remember wanting one because it reminded me of the "lumberyard fan" I went back to the lumberyard at least twice and saw the Tara. The first time I remember seeing it from the sales floor, running on medium. The most noticable thing about it from the floor was the shiny brass sideband! The second time I remember going to the bottom of the stairs and looking up at it, not running. I went back one third and final time and it was gone, replaced by the polished brass/cane Design House you see now. They also had two other Design Houses installed on either side of it (which are no longer there and no one seems to remember). At the time I asked someone in the fan department if they knew anything about it or what happened to it, they did not. But I was a kid, and also I should have asked someone who worked on the balcony. I was in third grade, either the very last time I saw the fan, or the time I went and it was gone, I forget which. The very first time I attempted to sketch the fan was in 6th grade. If I still have that sketch I'll scan it and post it in the future.

For the record, I think all the known finishes of Tara fans are represented on my site:
1. Brown/Brass 2. Antique Brass (ornate) 3. Antique Brass (plain) 4. White/Brass 5. White 6. Polished Brass 7. Chrome
Anyone ever spotted any other finishes? Supposedly they offered them in every conceivable combination. I know not many of you have even seen Taras outside of my site, but there are a few. I will be posting a picture in a little bit that is quite unusual and to that effect.
