Alex’s ceiling fans sightings

Rodrigo has seen the Canarm CP56 at Marche Du Village in Ange Gardien, QC. He has even made 2 videos of them. There are 14 fans in total in the store including 2 fans in the employees room. 1 Canarm CP36 & 1 Canarm like the 2 over the entrance. So there are actually 16 fans in total.

The Nadair Arc-en-Ciel is very cool. They are not common at all.

Canarm Muranos are much less common in this size than in 132 cm.

I have never seen the white and brass canarm before, I though about paragon II because it has the same motor housing but the mainly difference is that the blade brackets are different.

Here is part 1 of 2 of the sightings of October. I did so much this month.

I went to the Olympic stadium again to see that the 1980s canarm cp36 has been turned off. No other changes happened.


I revisited the places in the plateau mont royal area to take better pictures and videos.

I saw a 4 saisons industriel 140 cm in a dépanneur, Jean has this fan.


I went back to the glass store to take better pictures and videos
you can clearly see the front spinner.

I went back to the book store with four nadairs and a 4 saisons galaxy 90 cm. The 4 saisons has its blades and brackets upside down, it actually has floral stencil on the other side. The four other fans are nadair. The nadair that does not work will be replaced by my white fan king industrial 90 cm. He is going to offer me 3 brown 140 cm sanyos.

These are all pictures of places I visited in the past. I took photos of all these fans.

I was never able to see the second pull chain on the 4 Saisons Galaxy in the book store. Poor thing! It seems the pin that locks the motor to the pole is coming out of it's hole. If that's what it is the motor could fall from the pole. Very dangerous!

Strange how they replaced one of the larger Westinghouse by a smaller Heritage.

i gave the owner a screw that fits in the pole through the motor.

Well, here are the sightings of October part 2 of 3 instead of 2 because it was just the beginning of the month.
all the sightings are near me, most of them we walked to the place or went by car. 

2 recently installed canarm cp36 90 cm from the 2010s in a French restaurant, one was on medium high and the other one was on medium ish low. Both of them are in reverse. One of them is wobbling due to having twisted blades.

a 1990s SMC Promo 107 cm in white and brass, running on a fast low. notice that it doesn’t have a reverse pullchain. It was also an older Hampton bay grayton for a short period of time while these were made.

A vacant closed store which used to be a clothing store has 3 canarm cp56 140 cm between 1995 and 2011



a small shoe store with 11 hunter Augustas or canadianas in a row! So incredible for being really close each other, they were all on low. The first one of the row need some serious cleaning. I heard a conversation that the fans “keep the leather healthy”.

Nice! You sure did do a lot of sightings in October. Most of these sightings are sightings that Jean did.

I saw most of these fans when I went to Plaza Saint-Hubert in June 2019 except for the white and brass SMC Promo Deluxe. 107 cm models are generally less common than the 90 cm models and even less with the big motor and hard brackets. Very cool to see this rare variant.

A recently installed Eurofase 132 cm that replaced a canarm calibre Due to renovations.

2 unknown 132 cm, probably a early or mid 2000s Kendal the one in front has a fallen canopy. They are childhood, I have seen those even the one that had the canopy fallen as a kid, the never seem to notice it. All the time I see those fans, they are on a super low speed like 35-40 rpms.

 A nadair designer’s choice in now a Peru restaurant but it used to have another name and during that time I went there often that had this fan, I am glade this is still there.

Next to the restaurant is a sewing machine store that has a lot of companies, inside they have 2 SMC 60F and 1 SMC 36F from the early to mid 1970s.

Next batch was at the Saint-Michel flea market, they have a lot of variations of canarm CP there and some banvil silver lines.
Most of the fans in there were the 1995-2011 version. They have 3 lines on the blades but a thick motor like if this was from 1994 or 1995.





That one has a burned upper canopy or painted canopy and a raised lower canopy, they don’t seem to take good care of the fans in there.

They had a bunch of Westinghouse industrials in a section of the market.


they had newer canarms CP56, CP48 High performance and one normal CP48 






this canarm high performance one was mixed with the CP56 blades, now it looks like an older model but also a newer model. It has the waterproo lower canopy.


and saved the best for last! They have this stock of six 1995-2011 canarm CP56 140 cm, sadly they were not for sale.


the last batch was taken again at plaza saint Hubert but in a different spot.

I went inside the dress store to photograph the 2 other fans, a five blade canarm catalyst and an uninteresting Hampton bay Glendale.

Here are the sightings of November, some of them have seen before.

A dry cleaner I have always went past it has this rare golden fan 120 cm with 3 wood blades, they are not my pictures, I took them from google maps. It is a childhood fan.



 8 canarm CP60 HPWP high performance 150 cm at a SAIL. Here are a few of them.





 I went back again to the bookstore to mainly bring a j hook to hang my white golden fan. The fan isn’t installed yet, I took pictures this time with my camera than my phone.




there is the nadair that has been removed and the golden fan that will take its place. It used to be an ivory ceiling.  The nadair is unfortunately irreparable so I kept all the parts except the motor itself.




here is a BIG surprise: my dad was able to go inside the Olympic stadium pyramid skylights! Now I know where the control is, on the beam!





I went to the greenhouses in the botanical garden, they had 2 big @$$ fans that was not accessible until February, I still photographed it but through another greenhouse, some of them have high velocity fans installed on the ceiling with I did not photograph.

I did see those canarm cp56 140 in the main building, I noticed that they are painted, I see from Jean’s pictures that the rubber grommet is white.



 I went shopping in old Montreal and saw some cool fans 

 At marché bonsecours, have small stores in them and all of them have a row of canarm cp56s installed. There is a sugar shack that has the same name as the one in Eastman, QC. That has the canarms antiquities with ugly oversized buckets. All the pictures did not turn out very well.



In the new sugar shack, they have a frame picture of the older location, you can see the oversized buckets on one of the antiquities.



A souvenir store at place Jacques-Cartier has 2 nadairs and a nadair designers choice, the 2 nadairs have a third chain that means it had a light kit.

a dépanneur has four mid to late 1980s nadair heritage 132 cm. One of them doesn’t have blades. Two of them were on, both very slow, on forward and the other one in reverse.

a school in Outremont that by brother currently goes to has 3 painted 4 saisons classic 132 cm. This time they were on but not last time back in February of 2020. The install is AMAZING! I love it.

A lot of these fans have already been shown at least once on the forum. They are so many photos that sometimes not all the photos load. Next time, share only new sightings and not ones that have been already seen.

Awesome to see 1970's SMC's still in their natural installation. Too bad Wilcorp never imported a mid size 120 cm version.

I have never been to marché Saint-Michel so it's nice to see something different. Very cool selection of fans. We don't often see Canarm CP48. Very strange this Canarm 140 cm with the thicker motor. It almost looks like it's a late 1980's motor with newer parts on it. As far as I know Canarm High Performances don't have a thicker motor than the regular CP56?

The more I look at it, the more I wonder if the 1979 4 Saisons 120 cm at Plaza Saint-Hubert would actually have a bigger motor than the one I have. The proportions are not the same.

Nice to finally be able to see the Canarms at the Stadium from below.

I don't remember the black Nadairs in Vieux-Montréal were different models. The one with a rounded housing is a Nadair Modern with the light kit removed.

Nice to finally have photos of the antique brass Nadair Heritages in the dépanneur in Vieux-Montréal!

The unknown in the souvenir shop with three lights was something sold at Canadian Tire.

As far as I know the 140 cm fans with curved metal blades in the art gallery are not Nadair.

Yeah, I noticed that when you mentioned it, the one you have is smaller. Also, the lighting is different, before, in your pictures they used to have fluorescent lights with four tubes that through the dropped ceiling and round vents too, but when I went there the round vents were not there and the fluorescent lights are now a row throughout the store.

Yes I think so too.

Mine has the motor that would normally be used with 90 cm blade span. It explains why the speeds are not terribly fast. I like the speeds on mine but I prefer the proportions of the one in the store at Plaza Saint-Hubert. It's amazing they changed the lights without changing the fans.
