That's true. Where I am, they hardly ever show up. The brown/brass seems to be one of the less common finishes, so when this one came up I figured I'd jump on it. This is probably the most money I've ever spent on a fan before, but I've been wanting one for a while and I haven't bought any fans since the summer, plus ts been a long week so I figured why not lol
My portable collection is nearing 40 units, my ceiling fan collection has less than 10. I'm running out of space, but I don't plan to slow my intake until it starts becomming a problem. I have for the most part stopped buying from eBay, this was the first time in probably a year or so now. I've resorted to just getting stuff that I find at local tag sales and flea markts, has saved me a lot of money.

Thing about ebay.... if there is a problem they usually side with the buyer. They and paypal can force a seller refund and actually pay for the refund themselves and bill the seller's credit card!

Right! Which is why I feel pretty safe doing this, even if it is possible that the seller is a scam. If I don't get the fan or its not as it should be, I'm not concerned about loosing any money. I more just don't want to deal with the headache of that.

It depends. If the seller doesnt send anything, the buyer is protected. If the buyer sells something that isnt as described, sometimes they screw the seller, sometimes they screw the buyer. It sucks either way. That's why I rarely sell on eBay any more.

Don't forget.. They don't have to include the shipping when refunding, then on top of that you have to pay for the shipping to return the item..
One situation with an antique TV I bought off eBay.. The seller shoved it in 2 layers of box without anything else and expected the wood frame and pic tube to make it through the conveyor belt drops at UPS, when the UPS delivery man sat the package down on the front step while at the door, and heard the sound of broken glass rattling, I said to myself, oh boy.... Lets just say I forced the seller to pay every penny including shipping or else they are going to receive Negative feedback on their 100% good record, after telling them how much an idiot they are for their horrifying packing job.. Needless to say I didn't have to return the item, which now is firewood, and I got every penny back, but unfortunately a piece of history of the late 1940s completely destroyed ...

It sucks either way. That's why I rarely sell on eBay any more. I've turned to buying things in person more often than through eBay as well. Partially because there's little that can go wrong dealing that way, and partially because the prices on eBay seem to be more or less ridiculous most of the time. This is the first thing I've bought on eBay in a while, I really only do eBay if I have something particular in mind that I really want to get, such as this model Original. Don't forget.. They don't have to include the shipping when refunding, then on top of that you have to pay for the shipping to return the item.. One situation with an antique TV I bought off eBay.. I had a very similar experience actually. I bought a vintage Panasonic pencil sharpener, in pretty much mint condition. The seller ships it to me (hold on to your computer) IN AN ENVELOPE!!!!! One of these: No packing materials, nothing. The corners of the machine were actually tearing through the paper. I was soooo livid, not to mention the item was obviously severely damaged. Since I bought the thing for functionality purposes, I decided to keep it. Had I bought it for collecting, this would have been a very different situation. Anyways, I contacted the seller and they refunded the shipping... I left lousy feedback because that was just so incredibly stupid and I paid quite a bit for it.

It was a pretty large envelope, but yes they did cram it in there pretty good. I'm sure the postal people thought the person who packed it was a ding-dong, but then again they've probably seen it all. That really was outrageous!

I hope it works well this time. What are your favorite age and type of Hunter Originals? That's a tough question...I have quite a few. My first favorite would probably be this one, the brown/brass with 4 oak cane blades and C brackets with the real Original motor that draws 2.5 amps from the 70s/80s. I like the 5 blade white version with the standard brackets from the early 2000s because that was the first variation I ever saw, in a Home Depot catalog. And I also like the 5 blade version with the standard brackets in chestnut brown, because that was the first and only (so far) version I've seen in person. Which ones do you like best? Do you have any Originals?

Do you have any Originals? I don't have any Hunter Original as you can see here, not even a copy of one. I have one Summer Breeze from 1991 and one Bayport from 2001. www.vintageceilingfans.com/membergalleries/gallery/browseimages.php?c=231Unlike most of people here I dislike the R&M version of the Original. I don't like how they are only 2-speed for most of them and have odd brackets. My favorites ones were made in the late 1980's to early 1990's, they have 3-speed, reversible and four blades only with classic brackets. These would be good examples. It's also in my favorite finish: www.vintageceilingfans.com/membergalleries/gallery/showimage.php?i=3794&c=111www.vintageceilingfans.com/membergalleries/gallery/showimage.php?i=1326&c=111I can also like some of the much older version from the 1930-1940's that have the same bracket as on a Casablanca zephyr.

The Summer Breeze is nice! I think you are definitely the first person I've come across who doesn't like the Robbins Meyers version of the Original. The 2 speed is kind of a disappointment because you loose the nice slow low speed, but the performance is really great. I like the brass ones pictured, those are the brackets I was referring to.

The Original finally shipped today, it left the Florida post office this afternoon. I'm not happy about that, I bought it on Saturday and paying $49 for shipping I would have expected it out first thing Monday morning...
