No bad displays here, they've served us very well. My mom has dropped them onto hard floors more than a few times and they're still going with no issues. That's good! Mine are second hand, my uncle used them for 5 or 6 years before he gave them to me, and I've put about 2 - 3 more years on them. When I got them, they already had failing displays and batteries replaced one. I replaced the batteries for the second time when he first gave them to me, and I must have gotten dud batteries because they lasted less than a year. Replaced the batteries again, and they're going on over a year and still lasting 3-4 days on a charge, which isn't bad because I think they're rated at 5 days charge. The displays are getting worse, but I keep holding onto them because the speakerphones on the handset are better than any other set I've used. I think next time the batteries fail, I'm going to try to buy a whole new set (if I can even find it still) because the displays are pretty much unreadable at this point and the batteries aren't cheap. Have you had to replace the batteries in your set yet? I recently did a range test on the i6763s: Found a set one eBay, and unfortunately it has the failing displays too, but its not nearly as bad as mine: www.ebay.com/itm/Vtech-3-Handset-Cordless-Telephone-Answering-System-3-Mailboxes-Model-I6772-/281488128393?pt=US_Cordless_Telephones_Handsets&hash=item4189fff989

We got ours second hand too actually, from a neighbor who upgraded, quite a few years ago now. The speakerphone on the handset itself really is fantastic, when you mention it. Regarding the batteries though, we've replaced them a few times per unit. They don't seem to really hold up very long.

The batteries definitely do not hold up as long as other units do, which is odd because they're Ni-MH (nickel-metal hydride) batteries, the better of the two types used in cordless telephones. This is annoying because the batteries are an unusual size, last set ran me almost $7 per battery. Additionally, the uncommon size leads to there being no higher capacity versions. Do you let the batteries run down in your set or do you keep them charging all the time? Letting the batteries run out of charge regularly will greatly increase their lifespan.

We typically run them down for just that reason. With my mom being wheelchair-bound, it's easy since she pretty much always has one on her instead of it being on the charger.

I try to run them out as much as possible, but they have an annoying low batter beep that often sounds at the most inconvenient times, plus no battery charge indicator makes that difficult to avoid. I wish there was some way to turn that off. There's a common misconception that goes around stating you should charge the phone all the time, and that's how people usually end up wearing out the batteries.

We used to have a Uniden 900Mhz like in your picture. We also had a few GEs that had the base and a separate little charger, one was black and then a white one. We also had a GE 900MHz after that and now have a Uniden with big buttons that light up green and it has a red flashing light on the handset and base.
I haven't paid much attention to the newer ones but the older ones were kind of interesting.

Do you have a picture of the ones you have now?

I've never personally worked with that Uniden model, but its supposed to be very powerful.. That's an analog model.. Hold on to it--you can't get those anymore which is really a shame..
I've never had good luck with GE telephones.. I've got a few and they all have some sort of problem..

People seem to have a hard time hearing me on the GE.

Do you have a picture of the ones you have now?I was just looking for something in a drawer and happened to find that 900mhz Uniden was in there. It reminded me of this thread. lol For some reason it's gone yellow and the batteries are probably no good, but it's still here, just forgotten about.

I aught to do an update on this,, I've gotten quite a few more phones since my first post..
Hey Cole S.,, are your Vtech phones still holding up? One of my handsets checked out,, the display is completely gone on the other,, and the last one the display is about half-gone.. They come up on eBay for pretty cheap from time to time,, I'm thinking of ordering a new set..

Unfortunately the plastic does have a tendency to discolor over time.. Usually more so if it was exposed to sun a lot.. If its a Ni-Cd battery,, there's a chance it may still work.. Those seem to stand the test of time pretty well.. Do you ever plan to use it again?
