I've got some disappointing news on my HKC Series. Well, I hooked it up to see it running. Since the switch was removed by the previous owner, I individually connected each speed wire to the lead wire. It just hummed on all speeds. I tested the capacitor, and it was still in good working order. I even tried replacing the reverse switch, that didn't help either. Then, I figured it was the bearings. I opened the motor casing to find the windings all mangled and out of place. I went ahead on re-greasing anyways, it still didn't help. So, I figured it was from the bad coils. I ended up parting it out, since it wouldn't be worth the money to have it recoiled. I figured I'd get the best out of what's salvageable out of it: BTW, I still have all the parts, so if anyone has any suggestions on how to get it running, please let me know.

Yes, Codep actually did make garbage..which you seem to have stumbled upon. This is also a good example of poor quality control.

Have you checked to see if one of the coils is actually open?

Somewhat better news...I took the motor out of my incomplete Halsey GE-vent, and franken-fanned the Codep. Depending on homework, I'll see if I can get it hung tomorrow.

I've tried to reconnect broken connections in the windings and seem to have no luck.. I was glad that I have a Moss heirloom lying around that's missing blades and had the same exact motor to replace in the Moss Emperor...

Once the break is in the motor windings themselves, you are better off scrapping it. But unless one of the two coils actually measures open, that may not be the issue.

Personally, I believe this was a waste of money from the start. It's just a POS builder fan, really.. completely and utterly worthless.

A little update on the project: I decided to use the switch housing and switch cap from the CEI builder I parted out. The Codep switch housing won't fit the shaft properly. I'm going to put on the second coat of paint tomorrow afternoon.

Did I mention that you're totally wasting your time?

Maybe he is practicing on this one so he doesn't ruin a higher quality fan in case something goes wrong? Here's a little preview of what it will look like. I'm going to redo the painting before I do electrical connections. So far, no regrets, I think it's gonna look nice.

A Fasco great room would look a hell of a lot nicer...
