Everytime I have sightings pictures of portable fans this thread will be updated. This is to continue the pictures at my best friends new house with the 3 SMC Windsor 42'' ceiling fans. They have two of those brand new bronze 16'' metal pedestal oscillating fans from the Rona Collection brand. They have a 3-speed pull chain on the motor. Pretty powerful! In the basement they have this black Windmere 12'' desk fan on low. Pretty quiet but not very powerful and does not have a very strong air flow. They also have a white & grey 1996-1997ish Super 12'' desk fan in the garage that was on high. The grill spokes on it was really messed up. For some reason I did not took a picture of this one but its exactly like the 16'' one I have but in 12''. Just like the 16'' one I have its pretty quiet and have a good air flow. All of her fans had their grills installed on the wrong side. Lol!

I never like those mesh grilles. Sure they're safe, but when it comes to disassembling them, those latches suck!

Here are the two 12'' desk fans we had in our bedrooms in the B&B we went for our trip to Québec City.(see ceiling fans sightings thread) A Super in mine(1998-2001ish model) Very quiet with good airflow. I don't like how the buttons are all gray on this version, the spokes on the grill are thinner and it have the new logo. The other bedroom had a white Windmere. It had a weird noise at the start-up a little bit like we hear on old 1980s fans that have been ran a lot without oiling for many years. This thing is pretty recent, like around 2003.

Same cause they were so good and it took pretty long until some Supers became seriously crappier. Still until 2004 they had good quality fans. That model seems to be from around 1998-2001.

My sister officially moved into her new apt and they were some fans that came with it. Probably left from the previous peoples who lived there or it the landlord's. Both of them needs a good cleaning and oiling. A 1996-1997ish Super 12''. Same as the 16'' one we have but in 12''. And this one I have no idea what it is. Its pretty beat up. The head does not hold up anymore, one of the spoke of the back grill is twisted and the front grill does not hold well on the back one. The back grill have its spokes more spaced than the front one. Its also missing its center. The grills are chrome. It looks from the early 1990s. This is the black Windmere 16'' pedestal fan I have in my office at work. Missing the front grill.

That beat up fan looks very Galaxy/Lasko like by the base and blade. Too bad its in such bad condition, it looks like it would be a nice little fan. The back grille looks to be very American style, while the front is Canadian style. I hate when fans are missing the badge. I've got that nice Tatung pedestal, but it's spoiled because the badge is missing.

The beat up fan looks like the front guard is from another fan.

From the Super fans I have seen on the net. It looks like Super never really "made" fans, they just slapped their name on a fan made by someone else. This was common back then, for example Montgomery Ward slapped their name on R&M fans, Lakewoods, Eskimos, and all sorts of fans. Hunter also did this with portable fans and put their name on GE fans, Century fans, and R&M fans.

It seems they do, or some of their parts.

But in the early 1970s to mid 1980s they were just using parts of American and Japanese fans like Laskos and Sanyo. Around the mid to late 1980s they started having their own designs and parts. Later in the 1990s when SMC started making portable fans but they were not use to it they decided to ask another company to supply their parts which apparently is Super just like the total opposite, Super have been making portable fans for many years but never made ceiling fans so when they introduced their Air Works line of ceiling fans in 2000 they ask SMC to make some of them.

Fallowing my last post in my ceiling fan sighting thread, here are the portable fans I saw during my trip in Saint-Sauveur. The hotel where I stayed had a bunch of 12'' Factos desk fans here and there but I did not bothered taking a picture of theses crappy fans. In that poker room where the Westinghouse Xavier II was, is this late 1970s KDK 12'' desk fan. SAME as the one I have. The church of Saint-Sauveur had two of theses antique brass UberHaus (Rona's brand) 16'' metal pedestal fans. They have a pull chain control on the back of the motor. They are very elegant.
