Well I guess it does exist. Oops. Oh well..
I've never heard of a varistor, but apparently it differs from resistor.

So I test it again, installed with the four blades in the basement. I had to use it with the 24'' downrod as a generic ball did not fit on the small dowrod. It works only on one speed and you have to push to make it go. I think that only speed is high as I hear a loud hum in the motor but it spins only at around 50RPM. I let it spin at that speed for about 15 mins and the motor becamed pretty hot quickly. Its like if the other speeds were not fast enough to push it even with no blades. I heard the beep for the 3rd speed but still not for the speed 4 and 5. The flywheel spins well by hand so I don't think it can be froze bearings. I'm pretty sure the electronics are messed up. So what could it be, a bad resistor? So far I see 4 options: Try to change the resistor Update the electronics(106$$$$!) Convert it to 3-speed pull chain. Convert it to single speed and use it with a wall control.

Mounting directly to floor boards..... BAD We are not directly to theses boards in the above room under our flooring. This is not a rustic house from the 18-19th Century to have the boards visible directly in the above room. Its a 1963 house. What can be so BAD? Cole does that too BTW.

What I think Jean is saying is that there's a minimal crawl space above those wooden beams. My uncle lived in a house built in the fifties that had the floorboards directly visible in the basement. Made it a b**** to keep warm.

you have put that nice globe! lol... ive got the same problem with the canarm mystic from 1999 i haved in my garage... when the motor turned, it became very hot... i haved to change this ceiling fan... ans i think youre ceiling fan will burn too... but did you say the precedent owners said it turn well?
i think you should not convert it to the tree speeds... and not to a single speed.... you can do what the guy make in a video you present... reparation of a casablanca...
good luck!

I get on a ladder and I can reach over the blades the controls no problem. I have long arms too. ;D Anyway the fan was not spinning any faster than 50RPM so it was no a problem. If it would be spinning at 200RPM I could have always turn it off by unplug it. It was just for a quick try, I barley kept the fan hanged for a few hours.

Made it a b**** to keep warm. But I don't see what harm and so bad that it could cause. What could happened? We have many layers above the boards. Its not a log cabin.
