So I have been meaning to post this since I joined the site. Everytime i'm at my grandma's house, I forget to take pictures.
So here it is..
Hanging in the foyer of my grandmothers house is a "Ceiling Fan." When I first came to her new house back when I was about 10 years old it was the first thing I noticed.
It is hanging from a chain wire.. That was the first thing I noticed. Obviously no fan could function correctly hanging from a chain.
It has four blades.. Probably something like a 38" It is dark brown would, with cane inserts.. The cane is see-through.
It has a small disc that all the blades attach to. It does not spin, and it is not a motor.
It has a single globe light kit on it..
So basically it is a glorified ceiling light. I LOVE it, and many times I've asked my grandmother if I could have it, and my grandfather (electrician) says NO because it is so unique, he's never seen anything like it.
It just amazes me that somebody had the idea to make a FAKE ceiling fan. I would love to meet this person. Most people don't pay attention/care about ceiling fans, so obviously the person apparently liked ceiling fans.
There is a part of me that almost believes it was made by someone, but the construction is too perfect to be, in my opinion.
Does anyone have any background on this "light," this FAKE "ceiling fan" that has been in my life for so many years?
I'll try to remember and get pics next time I'm there, I just don't want my grandparents to be like .. WTF.. why is this kid taking a picture of our light? haha

Does the blades can spins by hand or its stationary?
I remember Jeremy posted a fan like that was listed on CL and it fits really well the description you give. It was chained hung, gear driven with a round large ball light kit. It was antique brass with cane on the blades.

Decorative light-only fans were common in the 70s, when ceiling fans were becoming popular for decorative reasons, but not yet for use. Remember the first Casablancas were made to be aesthetic, not effective.

I'll work on getting a picture.
Dan's right on. I think I wasn't clear enough in my post.
The fan is NOT functional, and never was functional.. It wasn't even intended to be functional
However it is interesting, and funny..

I've honestly never heard of that before. That is pretty interesting, and I'm looking forward to pictures.

I've seen these before. They're JUST a decoration with a lamp inside.

I seriously don't understand the point.
I really wish they would give it to me. I would put it in my closet..
I'm debating hanging my small Monte Carlo there, but it would be nice to have a FAKE fan there! haha

are the fake blades pitched and dose it have fake chains[ this will probably be the stupidest question i will ask]but i am curios No not that stupid. I'm pretty sure it does not have pull chains but I wonder about the pitch of the blades too. I also already asked if the blades can spins by hand or if they are stationary.
