If anyone has noticed that I haven't been around very often it is because of this... I have been looking for ceiling fdans and other related items within the walls of the old Philadelphia State Hospital, also known as Byberry. Byberry is an abandoned mental hospital in the far northeast section of Philadelphia. It opened in 1906 and finally closed in 1990 due to horrid living conditions and the crapload of asbestos inside the buildings. This complex is huge! It currently consists of at least 15 buildings connected via patient walkways (tunnels above and below ground) and steam tunnels that are referred to as the "catacombs". There used to be around 50 buildings in all. Anyway, I have been exploring the place looking for ceiling fans and the occasional desk and pedistal fans. Yesterday, I went over there again to retreive a few dozen intact pill bottles and a chunk of the collapsed stairwell. I never got to the pill bottles because I ren into a couple of CONTRACTORS inside (very rare site). I didn't know what they were going to do so I had to leave abruptly. |

Hey Andrew, I have dibs on any pre 1980s rotary telephones you might find in any places you're exploring, like the ones left in the Pines Hotel (or earlier type phones, too, if vandals haven't destroyed them yet  ...) It's a pity to see nice places like the Pines left the rot away...I'd buy the place, clean it up, and make it a hotel again. If I had the money. It's a creepy place, though; it gives off very "Shining"-esque vibes, like the key shelves behind the front desk and the pschedelic bar room. That Byberry hospital is just plain scary, however. The city should knock it down and build a new "old" Victorian hotel or something... -Alex K. |

Be careful if you if disturb any of that asbestos and gets into your lungs, you will be doomed and get lung cancer. I would wear a mask, There is a old place near me that has fans, and I'm going to wear a mask if and when I go in there....

But yet you have soo many... None too crappy to want to burn. The ones I have are all in good shape. I can use tham as replacement fans in businesses and other places other than my home. |

Be careful if you attempt to "rescue" fans from old buildings. Two years ago, I snuck into an abandoned restaurant to salvage a couple of old Chadwick-Miller ceiling fans, and the cops showed up...

Thats why you go at night  A while back, me and some of my buddes used to sneak in to a junkyard at night and steal hundereds of dollars worth of car parts. Never got cought, but came pretty close many times. I woudlnt reccomend doing that |
