Why did you take a perfectly nice brown fan and paint it?
Were you careful to seal off the bearings when you painted it?

i diddnt spray directly into the bearing area and i taped off the top part. the fan was pretty scratched up also, i left one side of the blades brown still, but the motor was pretty scratched up. i just want to know how to disassemble the motor and how to get the screws to tighten again, and possibly replace the bearings. dumb move on my part i geuss. this will be the first and last time i ever completely paint a fan.

You remove the 3 or 4 long screws from the outside edge of the motor, and then pry it open from the sideband where the gold stripe was. The bearings just punch/pry out.

That's the easy one.

Usually when I paint a fan, it's usually a fan that I've taken apart to fix. I paint each part separately

i saw the bearing at the bottom of the motor, it was right there when i pryed off the motor cover, but what about the bearing on the top by the capacitor and lower canopy? more screws to remove perhaps? also i was able to salvage the gold sideband sticker that runs around the motor, so i put it back on.

Prying of the top part of the motor is much harder to get off than the bottom part. You have to unscrew a few screws and unscrew the lower canopy capacitor compartment off the shaft..

ok i had it apart and i was able to see the top bearing. i think both bearings are shot. i dont know if lubing them will help. it still spins but not as loose as it should, and the bearings make a whirling sound too. were the bearings kinds bad when you had the fan too adam?

Yes, you do not need to remove the screws to take the motor apart, but you do to access the top bearing. You can also remove the capacitor yoke.

The bearings were fine, when sold to you. You can purchase bearings. I beleive there is a place called Boca Bearings in Boca Raton. You will have to pull the bearings off with a gear puller, or bearing puller. They can be purchased at a bearing shop. You might need to buy two types of pullers, depending on how the bearing are stuck, if they are stuck on the shaft, you will need a gear puller that pulls off from the outside, if they are stuck on the motor shell, you will need a puller that pulls from the inside. Which I still need to get to fix this fan

First, thoroughly clean and re-grease the original bearings, maybe they just got some grit in there from the painting. If they need to be replaced, do as Adam says. I buy bearings from Fastenal and Motion Industries. Grainger sells them too.
