I can see how Sean would recognise it as Pierce's fan. I hope it isnt a hoax.

I can see how Sean would recognise it as Pierce's fan. He didn't. I did, when I saw his CL roundup thread. I'm very excited and cant wait to see pictures. How in the world did Sean find it if there were no pictures on the ad? He didn't even realize he had found it. He was doing a run-of-the-mill search of the major cities Craigslists, looking for ceiling fans, and put it up there [presumably because Panasonics are rare fans]. What luck though!

I can see how Sean would recognise it as Pierce's fan. I hope it isnt a hoax. So do I, obviously. I also hope the sun will rise tomorrow -- however, I don't any proof that will happen either. But I'm confident enough about it that I'm not worried. Someone also thought that the folks in NJ would turn out to be a hoax. Instead, they turned out to be a fan goldmine. Seems that some folks around here are either (a) too stupid, (b) too cynical, (c) too lazy, or (d) some mix thereof. Their loss, my gain. There are a few things to keep in mind, which rule this Panasonic out as a hoax: * It was on a craigstlist on the other end of the country, and was found by us by accident (unless Sean's in on the hoax too) * I spoke to the seller several times back-and-forth via email during this deal, and she seems real -- and I've been an eBay member since 1997 or 1998; doing e-commerce for 10 or 11 years gives you a pretty decent ability to "get a feel" for people * The seller described several very unique things about the fan: (*1*) she named the fan outright -- it's a Panasonic, (*2a*) she said the model number is F5210CH (*2b*) and that the fan has cherry blades -- unless she magically knew how the model numbering system works, she'd have no way of knowing about the blade color thing; also, where would she come up with the F5210 part anyhow?, (*3*) she described the very unique blade irons quite specifically and accurately: "... large blade holders that look like harps in a way", (*4*) she described the color of the motor (how could she possibly know that unless she held the thing in her hand?), (*5*) she mentioned another unique detail -- the thing about the speeds: "doesnt seem to spin as fast as other fans I have , but still distributes air around the room nicely", etc. That's a little bit too realistic to be a hoax. There's no way she could have several of those details, unless she actually had said fan. I have a better chance of winning the North Carolina state lottery, than she has of making up most of those details...and remember, she didn't come to us collectors. We found her. If she had emailed me out of the blue saying she had some F5210WH Panasonics but no photos, I'd just assume she'd seen the page on my website ( www.sevillefans.com/panasonic.html) and was trying to scam me. But again, she didn't come to us -- and she had details not mentioned on that website, or these forums, or known to any other collector save myself. Either way, the fan will be shipping out UPS on Monday or Tuesday, and I'll be getting a tracking number, so we'll all know soon enough.

Make sure you post pictures as soon as you get it. Like I said, I certainly will. Inside, outside, right-side-up, upside-down, wearing a little pink tutu, you name it -- this fan will be so heavily photographed I think my camera's shutter might just catch fire.

Oh, and for those who don't understand the thing about the blade irons and harps ("... large blade holders that look like harps in a way ..."): Example: Harp (technically a lyre, but that's still a type of harp): Blade irons:

yeah I got the harp thing. Pretty unique, I wouldnt have thought of that descriptor.
None of those factors are coincidences to anyone who's seen your site or your threads here. Basically, if it was a hoax, it'd have to be another collector messing with you. I sincerely hope it's not, as I want to see the fan for myself.

I'm usually very much against resurrecting old threads, but I have an update to this one. I have found a series of fans that are VERY similar to what Pierce was looking for. One popped up on Craigslist a week or two ago, and I found more tonight in a bar up in Dallas at an event I was attending. First, the picture: The following features appear to be EXACTLY what was on Pierce's fan. Please note that it is not the exact fan, and that there could be some other differences as the fan was on high in a VERY dark room when I took the picture: 1) The method in which the blades attach to the motor, although it may be more proportionate to the rest of the fan than Pierce's. 3) The canopy. 4) The cloth pull cord with a giant tassel. The following aspects are DIFFERENT: 1) The shape of the motor housing; it looks more proportional to the fan and it is definitely ornate. There also does not appear to be a large rotating plate between the brackets and the switch housing. 2) The shape of the switch housing, although the bottom cover appears to be the same. 3) The shape of the brackets, although it is evident that the screw pattern is the same on this one, Pierce's, and wooden-blade KDK Royalaires. 4) The shape of the blades; they're the same blades as those on wood-blade Royalaires. 5) The almost non-existing blade pitch, and the fact that they were going about 180 RPM (supposedly Pierce's ran much slower and had a steep pitch). 6) The fan appears to be reversible.

No doubt that this fan is a Panasonic/KDK, and it further confirms that Pierce's is too.
I never understood why you (and some others) were against ressurecting old threads. I'm for it. It keeps discussions more linear.
