Funny, reminds me of the Menards were I work. It has that odd staircase that goes up to the offices and snack bar(I've been up there when i get yelled at for doing something stupid), and ironically enough there is a fan hanging up by the staircase! Its the POS white Turn of the Century fan (basic builder fan with 4-spot lights, im sure dan is sick of them as much as I am) and they have four over the snack bar where originally four Evergo 'banana fans' hung. Ask that place if they have inventory records and see if they ever sold Tara.

Yes They replaced them when they redid the store and expanded. At a similar Menards store, there were 4 brown 52" 1895 Series, last time I checked they were still there and running. Since alot of Menards stores are expanding or moving to bigger locations, the cool fans in the old stores are gone. One store had about eight brown Nutone Verandah series scattered among the front end and three more in snack bar of the store. That store moved and now in its place is a 'Big Lots', where they removed all the fans and installed a 'Fake Ceiling'.

Wow, I think I've been to that Menards when I was little. It didnt have the fan over the stairs, but I remember the 4 Banana fans. The Banana fan in the picture in my gallery the one with the two little girls in the picture, my uncle bought it at that Menards. And yes I am sick of those TOC fans. Oh BTW what kind of lights did those Banana fans have on them? I dont remember. Ask that place if they have inventory records and see if they ever sold Tara. I did better than that, I spoke to the man who was the head 'buyer' for that lumberyard. He says he never heard of Tara or Southern Fan, he remembers selling Design House (that's what the Tara was replaced with) and before that he thinks they sold Ritz. However, I, after talking to him, found out Southern Fan sold some fans to American Lantern and they were relabeled under that name. I went back to the Lumberyard . . . the buyer wasnt there, but I asked the woman who works at the desk nearest the fan to give him the message and she said "Oh, American Lantern, that sounds familiar". So no concrete threads, but some theories. It's a mystery. I'm getting chills!

Around here, none of the Menardses have cool fans hanging up, even the ones that havent been remodeled. I've only seen that in out of town Menards. Menards is still a really cool store.

i too, am sick of turn of the century Even worse for me I have to sell them! Actually, I work in the Hardware dept. Steve, Denise and Duane sell em'. Dan, you are in Menards country (based in Eau Clare), so most or all the stores there have been updated. It is a cool store and I enjoy working there. Its the only Home center that sells an isle candy and junkfood . That's where most of my paycheck is spent ;D . As for the Banana fans, they must have been standard in the snack bars. They all had globe lights on them. Also they removed the pull chain variable speed chain thingy so all the fans would go at the same speed (at our store at least). I can name many locations that had them. Unfortually they have all been replaced with POS TOC.

Because they wanted to give their stores an 'updated' feel. That was obvioulsy not achived really well. The store still looks circa 1981. If you want to get to the bottom of it, go to Eau Clare WI and have a chat with Mr. Menard.

Some of them have been remodeled, some have not. I like the ones that havent better anyhow, much more relaxing to be in. Always been meaning to ask, what stupid things do you get yelled at for doing? Anyhow . . Menards was opened in 1981? I thought they'd been around longer than that. Or is that just your store? And who is that incrediably annoying man on their commercials? Menards has, without a doubt, the worst commercials, the same ones with the same music since the 80s. Their spokesman is this old man with this programmed smile, you can hear his false teeth clicking into place as he talks with that great big TV/Car salesman grin on his face. I shudder to think . . .

But we are getting off-topic, since Menards, to my knowledge, never sold the Tara. A lot of very very cool fans though, in the 80s.

I have added a few things to my Tara Quest page to make Tara-spotting a little easier for everyone. 1. The sketch I posted so many months ago, that started this whole trouble 2. Some samples of characteristics of other fans similar to that of the Tara. I posted a direct comparison between the Tara canopy and a more standard bell canopy, since lots of people didnt seem to be able to spot the difference. I also added a clip of sample blade irons and vent holes that supposedly look just like the Tara's What would be great is if I had a picture of a Tara. But would would be greater is if I had the fan itself. Thank everyone who's helping! Here are where the updates are posted: www.geocities.com/mt_spiffy/
