Also of note, Vince: if an upgrade in Performance is high up on your requirement list, then the Distinction DC likely won't have anything for you other than better methods of control. It seems as though you need a slightly larger blade span than 50", but with the same or similar performance proportionally to the increase in size/same concentration of airflow. A 50" ceiling fan moving 6,200 CFM on high is already great (3.7-3.8MPH wind speed), but for similar proportional wind speed, at, say, 54", then you would have to look for something capable of at least somewhere in the high 6,000s-low 7,000s as far as CFM goes. Again, I am aware of the control situation, but as far as the fan itself goes, the Emersons would be better for the money spent.

I think the CFM that the Distinction DC produces is good for my bedroom, since I want a little more air movement, but not too much as to rustle papers around.

I think the CFM that the Distinction DC produces is good for my bedroom, since I want a little more air movement, but not too much as to rustle papers around. What I'm trying to say, Vince, is that even with a tiny bit more CFM, proportional to the size range of the fan you are going to replace your Panama with (54"-60", the high end of which I would steer clear of), you will effectively end up with a product that's a bit less powerful. And again, the 7,680 CFM rating is what the Distinction DC produces at 72" blade span, not 60" like I said before, and definitely not 54". The 188×25mm model (54" only) of the Distinction puts out 6,235 CFM at full blast (176 RPM) with the B154 series blades. The Distinction DC should be a little bit better (maybe 180s RPM) but even then, you still end up with a product that performs proportionally worse than your Panama. This is one of the biggest reasons why CFM can be an inaccurate metric; when referring to fans of a similar size range and of similar design, then this can change. But, Wind Speed is an overall more accurate metric regarding performance. The Wind Speed of your Panama (50") is around 3.8 MPH, at around 6,200 CFM, which is really good. The equivalent 54" fan would have to move around 7,000 CFM for the same/similar wind speed. Another example: My Supra puts out around the same CFM as your Panama; according to the manual, 6,233 on high (187 RPM). Most all of the units I have encountered, including my own, do around 185 RPM on high. Even though my Supra and your Panama do put out similar/the same CFMs of air movement, your Panama is still a slightly superior air mover, and that is because of the subtle size difference between 50" and 52", causing your fan to have around a 3.8 MPH wind speed, whereas mine is around 3.5 MPH. This is what I mean; if you're going to spend the money for something new to replace something that is already relatively new, and powerful (but not powerful enough for you), then you want to look for something not only a little bigger, but also more powerful (higher wind speed) proportional to its size. It wouldn't really be worth it if you dropped all that money on something that has the same or inferior performance to what you already have, maybe just spread over a slightly wider area.

I think the CFM that the Distinction DC produces is good for my bedroom, since I want a little more air movement, but not too much as to rustle papers around. Given your implication here, it seems as though your Panama doesn't rustle papers around, but you want something larger because the Panama looks a bit small to you; you also said you wanted something more powerful. Honestly, your Panama is already a powerful fan that moves a lot of air, not only for its size, but in general. If you went with something with a higher proportional power/wind speed than your Panama, like, say, the Simple (4.08MPH wind speed) or the Pensi (which has an INSANE 4.55MPH wind speed), then papers would be rustling and possibly blowing around. That said, if you went with something with a lower proportional power/wind speed than your Panama, even if the thing is a bit larger, the fan would feel a bit lackluster/weak in comparison to your Panama.

Both of those fans don't have light kits, or at least something that would put out enough light when the fan is the only source of light in the room. I still think the Distinction would be a good bet, and I know you're somewhat partial to Emerson, and that's ok, and I'm somewhat partial to Fanimation, and that's ok, I think it has to do with brand preference. Not saying anything's wrong with either the Avant Eco or the Distinction DC, it's just that the latter has more technology onboard.

Not saying anything's wrong with either the Avant Eco or the Distinction DC, it's just that the latter has more technology onboard. I'm just as partial to Fanimation as I am to Emerson to be honest. Which fans are you referring to that don't have light kits? If you are talking about the Emersons, then there are definitely light kit options for those that will be sufficient for such a setup, with your fan being the only light source of the room. It's not really brand preference, since I rank Emerson and Fanimation equally as of now. The latter of the two does have more technology onboard, but in attempt to help you get the best for what you're paying given your requirement list, I'd say that the Carrera Grande/Avant Eco are better buys based on performance alone, and the fact that this seems to satisfy your exact performance request. However, said extra technology is a definite boon, being able to control your fan from your smartphone via Bluetooth, and the fan's speeds being virtually variable. Oh, and the Fanimation control has Safe-Exit and Home-Safe straight from the Inteli-Touch system you're already used to. However, the Emerson control, in lieu of its simplicity, is much easier to use than the Fanimation control, which will be harder to use than Inteli-Touch already is. That, and the motor is a bit less powerful in the Fanimation. No matter which one you'd pick, though, I'd stick to the 54" size, because 60" is too big for anything less than a good size master bedroom.

No I meant the Simple and the Pensi. The Pensi may be light kit adaptable but only for one halogen bulb, which is too little light for my bedroom. I don't care about the ease of use, as I've been using computers my entire life so I'm pretty good when it comes to that stuff, and I'd use fanSYNC most of the time to control it, and the app is easy to use.

The Pensi's light wouldn't be effective for your space. The Simple, however, does have a larger, more powerful LED light that seemingly should do a decent job for such a setup as yours, but still likely won't be as effective as a four-light. Given the fanSYNC app, there shouldn't be more complication of use than with the control, since it's easy to use. I would look at other options other than the Distinction DC even still, some that may offer more value for money. And I would still greatly consider the Emersons or even the "small" Big Island, for the better performance. And the sole reason why I haven't recommended the DC version of the newer Casablanca Panama is because A. You already have a Panama, and B. The Emersons, Big Island, Distinction, etc. All offer more customization, similar (and in the case of the Emersons and likely the Big Island, better performance), solid-wood blades, etc.

I think I'm gonna go for the Distinction because I don't want the "tropical" style and the fan is the only source of light in my bedroom, so I'd have to have a 4-light fixture capable of LED's.

Well, I will tell you, the thing will perform in the ballpark of what you already have. Maybe slightly higher CFM, but a larger size to go along with that. If you don't mind the performance of your Panama, then this won't be an issue. If you do, than it will be an issue. Oh, and again, don't get the 60" size; that'd be too big for an average, even relatively large bedroom...54" would be your best bet.

I'm probably gonna do the 60" because I want the larger size. It's 2,000 CFM, roughly, more than my Panama, so I think it'll be fine

People are trying to give effective, constructive advice. If you simply want a Distinction, that's fine. Just say that and give up on all these reasons why, because people have debunked most of your logic. I love Fanimation as much as the next person, but everybody knows I hold loyalty to nobody in particular, which essentially makes me loyal to everybody, so my pick here would be the Avant/Carrera as it suits your original criteria the absolute best. But the way this is going, your original criteria hardly matters anymore because I think you just want the Distinction regardless. The only reasons I see to go with the Distinction are 1: you like the appearance better or 2: you just flat out want the Distinction.
I thought the 31 speed thing was fun. However, it's not a consideration I'd really put anywhere near the top of my list when looking at products. It's a nice feature, but with so much selection it's kind of cumbersome to utilize and I see no more value in it than I do in an Inteli•Touch fan. The actual range of speeds are similar, it's just far easier to select one of six very functional speeds than it is one of thirty-one. So if this is actually one of your big criteria points, I'd reconsider it, because your Panama already offers a functional range of speed options. Again, it kind of sounds like you just want the 31 speed thing. Which again is fine, but quit trying to make it something it's not. Just say you want a 31 speed Distinction for no other reason than the fact that you want it and we can all go on our way.

That's what I was trying to say all along, it's just that people were trying to steer me in a different direction. I may go with the nickel Emerson Avant/Carrera DC with the wall control and a nice 4-light fitter with Alabaster glass, or the Distinction. I just like the smartphone control, which Emerson has yet to offer.

Again, I'm not trying to steer one way or another, I'm just offering my experience, but I swear you'll practically never use the smartphone control. It's fun for like five minutes, then you're over it because it just takes so much extra time and you go back to handheld remotes. I'll totally get on board with using it as a feature for product reviews and stuff because it is cool, but I've had SIMPLEconnect installed on fans consistently for like 2 years now. I'm pretty much constantly on my phone for one purpose or another, and I'm pretty into the concepts of smart home tech and that stuff, so I'd be as inclined to use my phone for that as anybody. But I literally never use the app for control. I like the stuff you can program to do for you, the automatic scheduling features are the only reason I use SIMPLEconnect. Waiting for Fanimation to offer scheduling features on fanSync!

One other thing I don't like about the Emerson is that it doesn't offer the security features AFAIK that other manufacturers do, like the walk-away light delay, the home security mode, the auto fan speed, and other features. If you're spending $200 or more on a fan it should include some "advanced" features like that.
