The Brookhurst in the computer room checked out,, capacitor melted and low/medium no longer work.. Bought about 10 different fans at Habitat in attempt to find a suitable replacement,, but couldn't get any that had both a quiet motor and bearings.. For some reason I can't seem to purchase a single vintage ceiling fan that has good bearings.. I don't understand what the deal is with that,, its really starting to get frustrating!
Anyways so I went back to the market of modern fans,, and (thanks to Tod) I discovered one more classic looking fan on the market..
Price was good,, 5,600 CFM is decent,, and it looks nice.. I just hope it actually looks like the picture.. Something tells me it's an old picture.. Should come in by the end of this week..

Interesting find for today. I hope for you it's actually as we see it on the picture. It look very much like a Hampton Bay Landmark with those blade tips and I see that they are selling other classic fans and some fans very similar to Hampton Bays.

I thought I was the only one who could never find a vintage fan without bearing noise! It's so annoying! Though I heard WD-40 and Zoom Spout can help fix that.
Love the new fan! Hopefully it's good quality…

HD Supply will charge you a lot for shipping just one item to a home, unfortunately. Otherwise I'd have a Port Reyes (Landmark) by now.

Really looks no different than a Hampton Bay Landmark made in 1994-95...

It looks identical to Hampton Bay Landmark that can take 4 or 5 blades. GEV Hampton Bay Landmark that can take 4 or 5 blades have those blades.

I will be interested to see what actually arrives as well, pictures like this always make me very skeptical.
It's funny the bearing issue came up, mentioning that gets me thinking about when I first started really collecting fans rapidly. It seemed like I always got fans with bad bearings too. I haven't really changed my habits or sources in collecting, but I don't experience nearly as many problematic fans these days. Never really thought about it before until now, really weird.

It probably won't be able to take 4 or 5 blades, only 5... apparently the white Port Reyes shown on their website doesn't have GEV and looks newer, and isn't on "Clearance"... I unfortunately think a generic-looking fan will show up,but let's hope not.

Really looks no different than a Hampton Bay Landmark made in 1994-95... It does.. I am curious to find out what year mine was manufactured.. I suppose its not inconceivable these are old stock..
Interesting find for today. I hope for you it's actually as we see it on the picture. It look very much like a Hampton Bay Landmark with those blade tips and I see that they are selling other classic fans and some fans very similar to Hampton Bays. Indeed.. A fan of this style is nearly impossible to find in the US anymore..
Since the HD Supply is a re-seller,, I wonder if these fans that look like the Hampton Bays are actually the same thing that Home Depot would have sold..

I am skeptical as well,, but since there's so few left in stock I have a feeling it may actually be the real thing..
What can you do about it? Have you ever replaced bearings? I've got a few fans I'd really like to do that with but its on the edge of my realm of knowledge.. Maybe we can discuss that further here..
HD Supply will charge you a lot for shipping just one item to a home, unfortunately. Otherwise I'd have a Port Reyes (Landmark) by now. Only charged me 10 dollars for S&H.. I find that more than reasonable to ship a 17 pound package from Texas to Connecticut..
I thought I was the only one who could never find a vintage fan without bearing noise! It's so annoying! Though I heard WD-40 and Zoom Spout can help fix that. I'm glad I'm not alone!
I tried the WD-40 and oiling procedure once,, and it was a disaster.. Didn't help at all,, and oil ended up flying all over the place when I turned the fan on.. Haven't tried it again.. Maybe I should,, I have a few fans with noisy bearings that I'd really like to use..

That's probably how I'd use it anyways..
This is entirely a possibility unfortunately.. If it does,, HD Supply will be hearing from me for sure.. Me too! The shipping is very slow though,, its not going to be here until the weekend..

It will probably be an older stock. Maybe one of those Hampton Bay Landmark that Home Depot brought back between 2005 to 2007.
10US dollars is very very cheap for something that heavy.

Hmmm... it explained to me when I tried to order one that "since it is shipping to a residential address via freight, a surcharge will be applied"... because HD Supply regularly caters to MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Operations) and apartment complexes so they usually get large orders in.
Jordan, if you don't mind saying, what part of CT are you from? I have a friend that was originally from CT.

You must have made a mistake somewhere--there's no reason they would ship a single ceiling fan via freight.. That's ridiculous.. Mine is coming via typical shipping from UPS.. Did you create an account when you got that estimation? They don't seem to like to release any information until you do so..
Look in your messages..

That's very possible.. Ugh,, now that has me concerned the bearings will be bad after sitting for so long.. That's something that would happen in my collection..
Indeed..

Indeed..That is definitely cheap shipping for a fan. I mean most fans are dropped shipped (Hunter, Minka, Casablanca, etc.) so the price is included in the individual fan. I was surprised to see after checking out their site, the old 42" Landmark with 4 blades that comes with a bowl light kit.
