A couple questions here;
1. what's your opinion on stencil on fans? personally I think it could look on almost any fan even 'modern ones' if they pattern was right
2. favorite ceiling fan stencil pattern?
3. has anyone ever tried stenciling blades yourself? this is something I want to do as I have some fan that are calling for stencil but don't have any

I love stencil.. I don't think stencil would go well on most modern ceiling fans.. It's defiantly more of an 80s trend.. I like stencil on chunky GE vent ceiling fans, and Casablanca fans.... Stencil also looks good on some spinners.. Never really thought about trying to stencil blades myself..

I agree, Tom Frampton and I have discussed a modern "steampunk" stencil.
I personally love Nutone and Casablanca stencil (both versions).

Steampunk stencil? sounds cool and makes me think of this fan Casablanca had 2 stencil designs?

I love stencil. The NuTone Verandah Deluxe and Emerson 1895 series white fans are probably my favorite stencil fans. The 1895's were at the elementary school I went to.
I've also always been a fan of the classic generic hungers that you used to see everywhere. I think both stencil and cane look great on those.
I don't think stencil would be popular on most modern fans. People tend to want the solid cherry blades nowadays....at least that's what I see where I live. Stencil today would be viewed by the masses as being as being funky like a school house light kit or old school tulip light. I love old funky stuff though. Now that I think about it, you really don't ever see many brass fans anymore. It's all bronze or black when it comes to new fans. I love a good looking brass fan.

1. Stencil looks good depending on the fan and where its used. Usually, it is pretty good on the fans they come with. It gives them a contrast and a ornate-y feel to them. Stencil would look nice on today's fans, as said depending on the style of the fan and the right patterns. Its just like the Casablanca Saturn. Budweiser Homestead ceiling fans have a Budweiser logo stenciled onto the blades.
2. I would say that out of stencils, the Casablanca Saturn blades had a unique pattern. Old Jacksonville ceiling fans had some interesting stencil. Same goes to Homestead ceiling fan stencil. NuTone and Tara/Calcutta have very weird stencil designs that I also like.
3. I would like to stencil some blades for myself, but I do not have a design for that, also to mention I do not have space blades to do it on.

I don't know of any modern ornate fans that Stencil would look good on.. Perhaps maybe a modern Casablanca..

I don't like stencil myself, although one of the HVLS companies (I think Big Ass Fans) offers a stencil pattern that looks like a tattoo pattern that's pretty cool.

I would say it would look better on those than most of the contemporary ceiling fans... Don't think I've seen stencil on a ceiling fan like that even the older belt drive fans like that... But I don't think it would look bad..

well I went and did my first custom stencil job as mentioned in this thread ada19851985.proboards.com/thread/10468/second-iconofan-image-heavybut her's the patter I came up with The trick is to first race the blade on paper and then sketch the pattern, then you can lay acetate over the paper and trance the patter on that and cute it out of the acetate to use for the stencil, and yes i do plan to make more stenciled blades for fans of mine.
