What exactly are you talking about? The first thing that comes to mind is the Emperor design, is that what you're referring to? If not please give an example.
If you are talking about the Emperor design I have no idea how it originated. I believe the first fan to be made in this style was the Ritz version, but I dont know this for a fact. It doesnt appear to be a reproduction of any antique fan, I suppose it was simply some engineer's/fan designers's idea of what an antique fan should look like.

For example on the Elligton designer Ceiling fan that has the stamp print designs on the motor and I was just curious how did they come up with that.

Ellington is a line of fans made by Litex, the fan I found called "Designer" has footprint vents: Is this what you're talking about?

First, the Motor Labels, they are mostly seen on Casablanca Fan Co. Fans with the Model Name and Everything Else. The FootPrint Vents were seen on Older Fans, and on New Litex Designers and Liex Huggers. I saw the Picture that somebody sent, and realized that I know the Fan.

Just so you know, smily's an idiot. He makes up crap all the time.
The 'footprint' vents were first made on an old GE fan somewhere around 1918 to 1926. That's where the term 'GE' vents came from. The casablanca zephyr is a repro of that fan and alot of companies afterwards started using that design aswell. The litex and murrayfeiss fans have shoeprint vents, which is a variation of the GE vents. The side label has nothing to do with your original question at all.

Just so you know, smily's an idiot. He makes up crap all the time. Not that I disagree with you, but, you know you're really asking for it, right? The 'footprint' vents were first made on an old GE fan somewhere around 1918 to 1926. That's where the term 'GE' vents came from. Makes up crap like that. You've been listening to Pierce too much. Footprint vents are not the same thing as GE Vents. The Litex fan in question, as well as Concord, Encon, and Murray Feiss fans, use footprint vents, sometimes called shoeprint vents, that . . . are shaped like that. I cant really describe it, but there's already been a picture posted in this thread. GE vents, those are the ones that came from a GE fan from the early 1900s, hence the name, and were reintroduced with the Casablanca Zephyr. An interesting point, however, would be the Ritz vents. Some earlier Ritz fans had vents more or less a cross between the footprint and GE, they were essentially GE vents turned upside down. The point that makes it interesting is, *supposedly*, Ritz fans came out prior to the Zephyr. So what really came first? Until we get some concrete data on Ritz, it'll still be uncertain.
