Hi guys,
My name is Patrick and I've been following your site now for some time. I've actually talked to Matthew before and bought a fan from him (That white Casablanca Four Seasons in the Casablanca folder of Vintage Ceiling fans on Yahoo) Anyway, I had a sighting today. I saw today without a doubt a Tara fan. I didn't see a label on it, but after looking at your pictures, what I saw was indeed the Tara. It had the distinct canopy, the vent pattern matched, and it had the big knob/dial on the switch housing. Also, the switch housing had a unique bottom. It was at a Chinese buffet, and there were only two. There were actually about 8 fans, and there was a spot where on had been removed. I don't know exactly what the others were. The other fans had bell canopies and a footprint vent pattern, and looked like Codep model A fans that are featured on this site.
By the way, I signed up for forum membership a while back, and it didn't work. It was under the name Patrick, and it wouldn't let me login after I signed up. So for now I will be a guest until I can get the login thing fixed.
Patrick

I wonder when they were replaced. I'm assuming all 8-9 fans were originally Taras/American Lanterns, and a number were replaced.
When you say footprint vents . . are you sure you dont mean GE vents? GE vents are like the Casablanca Zephyrs, Footprint vents are like the Concords (among others). I dont recall Adam having any fans with footprint vents in his gallery, there are a few in the Yahoo Gallery.
Thanks for looking out on those Taras. If I decided to pursue them, would you be willing and able to help me out?
I am thinking they were actually the far-more-rare American Lantern models, since Taras have a letter T on the bottom and that huge-ass badge on the sideband. What finish were they?
Dan

It just occurred to me that I actually did see a Tara fan when I was little. It was at a restaurant that is now a Bob Evans in the Pittsburgh area, and there were 3 of them. They were brass and had 3-way light kits.
Dan, I thought this would be of interest to you.

What kind of light kits did they ahve? Is that restaurant still around, any idea if the fans are still there? You know I'm interested in any additional details.

They had 3-way tulip-esque lights on them. That so-called restaurant is now a Bob Evans and now has recent Emerson Northwinds in it. That was the only place closest to my house that had Taras, and they weren't popular here in the Pittsburgh area.

That so-called restaurant is now a Bob Evans and now has recent Emerson Northwinds in it. Speaking of Bob Evans and northwinds, I once stopped at a bob evans in lancaster and I saw a few older model northwinds, some newer ones, and about a dozen 52'' antique brass fasco vanity fairs. Almost all of the older restaurants have some neat fans in them.

The World's Fair was 6 blade and 38"/52". There was also the Decorator (5 blade) 42" and the Great Room (5 blade) 56".

Well, if you're talking about the thin-slit Charleston vents, as opposed to the oval vents in the Vanity Fair etc, then it would be a 5 blade Charleston. They were offered in 52" size only. Also the later 3 speed Great Rooms looked identical to the 5 blade Charlestons.
