I went to Home Depot the other day to pick up some oil for my Originals. When I asked the guy there where the oil was, he asked me what kind of fan I needed it for. When I told him a Hunter Original, he tried to convince me how the new Original is better since it doesn't have to be oiled and that he had bought one and how great it was. I tried explaining to him how it didn't move as much air (and showed him on the box), but he wouldn't believe me. Very strange... and the guy was also a prick about it!

That's a "stockie", that strange new breed of Home Depot associates.
Def. @ Stockie= A Home Depot associate {employee} that owns shares in the company, a normal salary and receives a commission for a product recomendation if the buyer(s) buy the product(s).
You can spot a stockie by their strategy. They think they know everything, even saying to you directly or indirectly that you don't know anything, they get really angry when the customers knows his/her stuff about the products they're interested. They even use reverse psychology and trick you to buy something that you won't need.
Dont' worry about them, they'll fight with you until dead to prove they are very acknowledgeable. Most of the Managers are the same deal. My current neighbor is a store manager, one of my cousins and the former husband of another {cousin} were both former employees and they all said that's normal behavior to argue with {some particular} customers.

I've ran into similar salesmen before. People who have no idea what they're talking about who refuse to believe they're not the world's greatest expert.
Wait, nevermind, I'm mixing that up with this board here, where's Andrew G when you need him?
When I was 16 I tried to get a part time job at Home Depot, in the fan dept. You had to be 18.

Out of business, ah! many wish that will happen specially the individual retailers. They're the ones forcing other hardwares out of business.
This is the 2nd largest retailer in the world with 1,500 plus Home Centers in 6-countries., over 200-Million people shop at Home Depot a year they don't care if they loose one or 10,000 customers over to Lowe's or thouse small chains.
They lost 10,000 customers today?, not a big deal, they'll get 20,000 more tomorrow., People are smart the know Home Depot will always have the lowest prices and biggest selection on anything.
And get this, the same people that have terrible experiences at one particular store promise themselves never to go back ... guess what, they're back at the same store a week a later.

People are smart the know Home Depot will always have the lowest prices and biggest selection on anything. This is why I'm SO GLAD to have Menards, Menards actually has a bigger selection and lower prices than Home Depot. Home Depot just opened up in Madison maybe 5 or 6 years ago, Menards has been here as long as I've been alive. Long live Menards! Also, when I was in GA, seemed like Lowes was slightly cheaper than Home Depot, but not by much. I ended up shopping at Lowes most of the time . . . but they really seem like the same store to me. And Perrey, I agree with you.

When i was fresh out of high School and was ready to got to college i'd also applyed for a position in the fan department. I was very surprise because i got both call backs, the interview and the training but failed their "psychological abuse" test. This was 13-years ago and today they still use the test.
*ATTN. "Mr". Dictionary, i made a typo dare to correct me.

They test you psychologically because they plan to abuse you? Or they test to see if you've been abused? No matter what, that's a stupid thing to have, what does it matter the psychological state of Home Depot employees, customers can never find them anyways. *ATTN. "Mr". I'm really hoping that Home Depot doesnt put Menards out of business, otherwise I would have nowhere to shop. They're not just a little cheaper than Home Depot, they're A LOT cheaper for most items. And not only is the selection better, the quality's not drastically different either, after all, all major home centers sell cheap sh*t. I dont think it's likely, Home Depot hasnt even put the neighborhood hardware store out of business. They opened the Home Depot right NEXT to the hardwarestore, if that wasnt nasty of them . . . and for the first 6 months the hardware store's business was down, after that, it went right back up and his been stable since. People go to Home Depot, realize they cant find anything or get any help, and come right back to the Hardware store. GO DORN HARDWARE AND MENARDS!!!

Well sort of both., the interviewer is always an associate of the department you're applying for. The one i got was a real jacka.s.s., he ask me some weird questions like how much is 2+2+6-1+9-9+7-16 and of course the answer is 0! then he said "that's how much trouble you have to cause to get fired." and i was like WTF?!
After that, they give you a written test which is nothing more than a another psycological questionaire with 200-questions.

They may have not put out of business any hardware in YOUR location But they do that, and very frequent. they're going to do it when the town least expected.
God! if i know don't argue with me.

They may have not put out of business any hardware in YOUR location But they do that, and very frequent. they're going to do it when the town least expected. God! if i know don't argue with me. Seeing how I work for the company, I can easily access any of that data. Menards has never closed a store due to competition, infact 14 more stores are planned to be opened in the midwest this year. A couple of local TV news stations did a comparison between Menards and Homosexual Depot. Supprising for some, Menards kicked the s**t out of HD in many of the given tests. First: Price. It has been prooved that Menards is 33% + cheaper than Home Depot and 55% + Cheaper than Lowes. The newscrew went to HD, Lowes and Menards to buy the exact same Skill electric jigsaw, Here are the results: Lowes: $50.00 Homedepot $45.00 Menards :$30.00 (prices were rounded to the nearest 5) They did that to several other items and got the same results, Menards beat them in the best price Selection: Lowes beat Menards and HD, but Menards and HD tied for second. The departments were more or less the same (Menards has a bigger Electrical dept. Our store has a full second level dedicated to them). Also, Menards had a bigger varity of brands (both private lable and name brands). It vaires from store to store (we carry 8 brands of fan, while HD and Lowes only have two) Service: Menards tied with Lowes. Nice people who know what they are doing. Very happy to help the guest Homedepot was 'Questionable'. They quoted stuff right off the package and really didnt know about the product. Their attidudes were not as pleasent as the other two. Saftey & Atomsphere. Menards got #1. We have a policy of not having any forklifts inside the store, except in the receving bay. Our shelv units cannot be taller than 9', that includes items stacked on the top (I violated that rule a few times.....) Menards isn't like a big warehouse. People feel more comfortable knowing that there arn't any forklifts zooming around waiting to run your kids over or 10' + shelving that items could fall off of. Menards got #1 in store layout and convience. Products were easy to locate and the BIN tags were present. The displays were clean and functioning. Home Depot had the sawdust aroma throughout the store and it wasn't kept clean. Lowes was a slight bit cleaner than HD, but no gold. That survey was taken recently by Minneapolis WCCO 11. I'll see if I can dig up the link to that webpage.

How long have you been working in that company?, cause you were born in September 16th? of 1986. and by labor laws companies in the U.S. cannot hire any potential employees under 17. and if my calculation are correct you're still 17... Anyway my point was Orange's business strategy in your location. Menard's might be winning on your areas but for how long can Menard's battle against Home Depot with only 180 stores based only in the northeast? This is an old report about how Home Depot drives the competition out of business. Which is what i was writing about in the first place. www.sprawl-busters.com/hometown.html
