I just acquired a Sears/Emerson Model 292.907700 Turn of the Century fan. It is the White/Brass model with the ornate sideband and the Emerson K55 motor. I bought the fan for the low price of $5 plus shipping from another collector as a restoration project. The collector had a total of 4 identical fans: two fans of which needed work (my fan and another fan) and were missing their switch caps, and two fans which were perfectly-functioning and were complete. My fan was the only fan that was $5. The fan came complete aside from the switch cap (I will use the switch cap off of a Hunter Original for now, and make a switch cap out of metal and paint it white to fit the fan), and it could use repainting. The main problems with the fan (and is the reason as to the low price of the fan) is that the bearings need work (WD40 and oil should make them like new), and it needs a new capacitor. My question is, does anyone have a wiring diagram for the switch housing of the Emerson Turn of the Century, or a similar Emerson K55 motor (Blenderfan?) that would show how I would wire up a new capacitor? The capacitor in the switch housing is 3.5uf, and has 2 wires(yellow in color with black lettering). Can I use a 4uf capacitor in place of a 3.5uf capacitor? And also, what is the value of the capacitor attached to the side of the motor inside of the Turn of the Century? What is the highest value of capacitor that I can use to replace that capacitor, if it needs to be replaced? The fan looks exactly like this: www.vintageceilingfans.com/searstocceilingfanmodel292.907700.htmlAny assistance would be appreciated!

Just wire in the new cap exactly where the old one is. As far as re-painting, look closer, I got fan 3 and I thought it needed a repaint until I noticed it is caked on dust. A good cleaning should make the fan like new. If you still need wiring help, I'll take pic of mine and post it.

You can use the 4uf cap.. Fan will go slightly faster.. Those are non polarized caps so it doesn't matter which way it's wired.. It could be the cap in the motor housing which you would have to open to see what it is, unless someone on here knows off hand..

Mark Welker would know which cap was bad, I hope it's the cap in the switch housing... if it's the cap attached to the side of the K55 motor I'll have to open the motor housing and replace that cap... btw, I'm planning on using one of the black, box-shaped caps with multiple wires that I pulled from parted out fans that still ran but were missing parts... is the style of cap I'm planning on using polarized or non-polarized? The 3uf, 2-wire cap that is currently installed in the switch housing is yellow and looks like a flattened-out cylinder.

I'm pretty sure it's non polarized..
