Very interesting... I've seen advertisements for the Haiku ceiling fan in several magazines. Its nice to actually see a fan pop up when your reading an article about a car or something

Been following this development pretty closely since I started trying to break into the social media scene of fan companies. SenseME at first sounded like Comfort•Touch on steroids (and WiFi), but now they're really taking it to the next level of smart home technology. Pretty incredible, other companies have a lot of catching up to do. Hunter is apparently going to debut their first WiFi control soon (like Fanimation's fanSync), but neither of those systems compare yet to what SenseME is capable of doing.
On the note of advertising, I like how Big Ass Fans puts out all those magazine and such adverts like Casablanca used to do. You can hate on Big Ass Fans all you want, but I personally have some major respect for what they're doing. They're like another version of what Casablanca was in its prime, kind of like at Fanimation, it's a bigger thing than just cranking out fans for money. People there seem to have an appreciation for the business.

I agree Cole, this company seems to be pretty good. The problem with Hunter is that their fans are pretty shoddy now, how they're controlled doesn't matter if the fan itself doesn't move a lot of air.
As good as the company may be, I don't think this is the type of fan I'd ever want to buy. I'm not big on electronically controlled fans, nor do I really like DC motor fans...

Hunter's 42" fans still move a lot like the Beacon Hill and Hudson. Its everything larger than that (specifically the 52" fans minus the Paramount XP and of course the Original) Rumor has it the Markham and another new model or two are air movers but I can't personally back that up.
Their definitely is a decline in Hunter quality but they have the legacy to still back the trust up for now without advertising. Casablanca is ultimately a lost cause at this point minus the few legacy fans they have left.
B.A.Fans though seems to be very dedicated. I'm with you Jordan as I'm not a fan of DC motors. I think they have potential in the future but I'd definitely wait for them to work the kinks out on them if I were to ever purchase one.

I know a number of Hunter's 52" fans are only moving around 2,000 - 3,000 CFM, which is shameful. The Original still moves an acceptable amount of air, but is now ugly (as with the majority of Hunter's traditional models) and no longer contains a proper motor. I appreciate companies that are dedicated to the product they make, which is why I like companies like BA Fans and Fanimation, even if they don't make a whole lot of models which are my preference of style.

I actually like the new Original although I like the ones of the past too. I have a little bit of respect for Hunter as the Beacon Hill I am a very big fan of but then again I'm thinking of 5-10 years ago where they still had fans with normal shaped blades and although not the best, they moved air and would last you for 15-20 years.
We're lucky because we still have accessibility to some more recent quality models on ebay along with some others but ultimately its going to be bad for those who need a fan under $100 for someone whose not looking to go vintage. Same with Casa since you can still get the normal XLP Panama's on ebay from some places. But at least Fanimation seems to be dedicated and Emerson still has the Premium Select and Crown.

I think the new blade irons they released on all their fans, including the Original, are hideous...I have lost all respect for the current Hunter brand.
I have a Beacon Hill from about 5 years ago, it hung in my bedroom for a while then I replaced it with a Casablanca Panama, right before Casablanca went down hill. I still have that Beacon Hill, its a really powerful fan, a great example of what Hunter used to be. Real Hunter fans (anything like 5 years and older) will last you more than 15-20 years if taken care of.
Emerson is a good brand to mention, they seem to be producing quality stuff still and unlike Fanimation, have some traditional designs left. Craftmade is another brand that's still good [at least I think it is, there are people on here who would disagree], but they're also pricey. For those that want a quality fan but not used, they're fast out of luck unless they want to spend several hundred dollars minimum.

They are cheap I know that. I was returning something at Home Depot and while waiting in line there was a Hunter thrown back in the box that was returned. I began looking at it and the blade irons are like the old Litexs where they cut the center between where the two screws to attach the blade iron to the motor were. The metal was there but it was thinner and just not like what a Hunter from 2011 or so was.
I like Emersons. I know there builder fans aren't something to be proud of but in reality, whose are? They of course are a part of a big corporation but having that diversity in their differing products may be what has helped them keep the quality out cause they don't need to focus on pure profitability completely cause other divisions subsidize them.
I know I've seen threads about them discontinuing the K55, does anyone have an exact time frame of when these DOE regulations and all will actually kick in to effect this.. I'm a bit new to learning all of this.

I'm a bit new to learning all of this.[/quote]If you look on the HD website and read the reviews for Hunter fans, particularly the Oakhurst (another strange name), you will see that a lot of people ended up returning the fan simply because it doesn't move enough air. I have what I believe to be 2 Emerson builder fans in my church. They're absolutely silent. Airflow isn't fantastic, but they move enough air that if you're standing under one of them you get a nice breeze. I've got no idea on the K55 discontinuation, but as with anything else I'm sure its just a matter of time before whatever K55 fans are left give way to spinner motors. They of course are a part of a big corporation but having that diversity in their differing products may be what has helped them keep the quality out cause they don't need to focus on pure profitability completely cause other divisions subsidize them. That was quite an intellectual statement to use an improper word such as "cause" in, and twice at that lol
