A few days ago, I got my first 16 inch oscillating fan from an estate sale store. This is part of a haul of four fans I got that day.
For 5 dollars comes this Lakewood 1600 DX in white and gray. It was absolutely covered in mold and dirt when I bought it, after some painstaking cleaning I was able to remove all the mold and get it in great condition. The plastic is stark white, not yellowed at all. Doesn't show too well in the pictures because it was cloudy today. The fan does run and the bearings are in excellent condition. The only damage is some half-broken slats in the back of the grill which can be glued back into place. There's a few scrapes and scratches on the front of the grill, but nothing too major.
I have a few outstanding questions regarding this fan, since this is the first one I've got of its type.
1) I cannot get the blade off. I've been told from reliable sources that it just pulls strait off, but I can't get it to come. I don't want to break it, but I've pulled it pretty hard.
2) How's the quality of these fans? It seems like its overall pretty flimsy and cheaper, but the motor has oil ports so it must be half decent. I know the Lakewood box fans will run forever, are these built with the same quality?
3) What is the approximate age of this fan?
Here are the pictures, I'll post a video by request, but I'm not going to make a video that nobody is going to watch because I think that's a waste of time.
Something strange is going on with part of the stand, anyone have any idea what would have caused this? It is not seen anywhere else on the fan except for this portion of the stand.
Thanks for viewing, more to come of the remainder of the fans from that haul. Leave a comment or question if you have one.
