Almost 2 years ago my now Fiance and I bought this house: www.texashomesforsale.com/san-antonio/east/home/6043-Castle-Queen,-San-Antonio,-TX-78218/937103 (copy & paste because apparently the comma is a problem for the forum >.< )
A MAJOR fixer upper...I've done a lot to it, there's still much, much more to do. Before I do before & afters, let me start off with the floorplans
This was the layout when we first got it
This is the layout right now, you can see a few changes but nothing major
Here's the goal, as you can see the kitchen is different and there's an addition on the side, which I'm currently planning
Here are some before & afters
Front-Removed the security bars. Mother nature took care of the carport for me. We also took down the front fence. I definitely want to repaint and am planning on putting a metal roof on it
Back-Tore down the old "porch" almost immediately, took out the large window and sliding door and put in a smaller window where the sliding one was and a single door and window where the sliding door was. I've also repaired the siding though I need to paint it. I also built a back porch but the rain has left it sagging, so I need to reinforce it...the ground here is not the greatest
Back yard....maybe not an improvement, cleaning it up is on the to do list but it's where I do all my cutting. I rebuilt the shed and filled it with ceiling fans.
Living room-I had to rewire this entire half of the house above the ceiling because of what the previous owner did. The partitions were removed, everything inside was painted. Floor still needs to be done.
*bonus* I refinished the front door, looks beautiful...this was the first thing I fell in love with about this house
Dining Room-was originally a big room with the kitchen, I built a partition wall with stained beadboard on it, put french doors in between here and the den, took out the old side window and put in a door (in preparation of the add-on). Moved the location of the light fixture...removing the paneling was literally the first thing I did in this house
Kitchen-have reworked the layout, removed the old cabinets and put in new ones. This is still very much a work in progress. I'm planning to remove the wall next to the fridge to make room for a full sized dishwasher (the cabinet next to the stove will be relocated, stove in corner, dishwasher where stove is, sink cabinet moved over literally 2 inches).
----These 2 rooms are an addition, basically a closed in patio. The slab is always moving so there's cracks on the walls and the doors are 50/50 on catching sometimes but I knew this coming in, it's basically just storage/dog space
Den: I painted over the weird geometric deal, put in an air conditioner, took out the sliding door, wired in for lights, etc....much more to do in here
Store room: I rigged in a setup for the laundry machines, did the window, put in an A/C, and put in the louvered door....this is what happens when you alone are tasked with clearing out your parents house after one of them passes away
Hallway (no before):
This floor was bare concrete, so I threw some cheap peel n stick on it. I relocated the light a few feet forward so I could put in a fan without blocking the attic door, I also wired in a second one around the corner. All the closets have these ridiculous 8' tall metal bifold doors, they are impossible to open smoothly and don't stay in the track at all, so I'm replacing them...so far I've done the utility closet by the bathroom and the closet by the kitchen
Bathroom: This was SO frustrating. It all started when my Dad gave me a pedestal sink, well when installing it I discovered the wall behind was completely eaten away by termites about 2' up, the footer was COMPLETELY gone. So I ended up rebuilding the entire wall before anything. I replaced the ceramic tile floor, sink, medicine cabinet, light, put in a ceiling fan and new exhaust fan, put in wainscotting. I'm probably going to paint the tub, if you do it properly on fiberglass it can last a while
Bedroom 1: Repainted, changed the fan out. The after pic is old because right now that room is filled with random stored crap. My Black & Chrome Saturn is installed in there now
Bedroom 2: Again, repainted and fan changed
Master Bedroom: Once more, repainted & fan changed. I need to repair my bed LOL
None of these rooms are completely finished, I'm always working on something
