Actually, Hampton Bay has quite a few chrome models... or at least they had. (I'm remembering the Cameron II plus with the Neon lights)

I loved 90's Hunter finishes, mainly the Verde (spelling I am sure is off) and the Terra Cotta I thought were quite cool. I have a verde-green 1886 installed in my living room for some time and a Sea Island of the same finish installed in my mother's sunroom for years. I think they look great even today. I also loved all the "color" fans of the 80's and early 90's. One model fan you could get in so many colors, Litex comes to mind as being big on that, and Concord. Teal, Blue, Gray, Pink, etc... Oh and Casablanca models in bright red are just plain awesome.

Chrome never really completely dies away. It goes in cycles of resurgence in popularity, Casablanca for example has returned to it a few different times over the years and some showroom brands keep it in the lineup for the basic model like they do with polished brass.

(Here's an example: www.four-decor.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Pinwheel-H5153.jpg )

The thing that gets me is the very traditional houses that are turning from Bronze now to Brushed Nickel it makes no sense to me. Brushed nickel has its place but not everywhere as some people believe.
As for rainbow colored fans I find them to be kind of neat. Although there was never a high quality one created except for perhaps the california surfer... They serve a purpose and many seem to be very traditional looking like the carousel.
Has anyone ever dealt with a Quorum Pinwheel? Their a funky fan but I've never seen the airflow on one. I'm assuming it can't be that good but then again there are some large bladed fans like that, that will surprise the heck out of you in comparison!

1) Most are under-powered. 2) The majority of them use MDF blades, and are made from cheap materials and labor. 3) They're now built with wattage limiters and candelabra sockets. Thanks, George W. Bush. -_- 1. Agreed 2. My biggest pet peeve! At least on new fans now they have to say on the blade packet what material they are made of due to a California law. 3. Most fans are back to medium socket and supply CFL's which is a better deal. (except at Lowes most have the candelabra base still) The thing that gets me the maddest is Hunter. They used to be the decent brand and a good value when you weren't looking for showroom prices and the accessibility to something used wasn't there. With alot of experience with modern Hunters ones that were pre 2011 had decent whisperwind motors... after that they are all scratched out of the factory and much noisier. The new hunters with models staring with "5XXXX" are cheaper metal than the even cheaper medal of the last 5+ years. The other thing that gets me is Casablanca is Hunter ten years ago with a little flair and the funky new Panama and DD stealth. Emerson is obviously the only winner still out there unless you can get NOS.

Believe me, I've seen that happen... and it's UG-LY!!!

And I think I saw one once... the airflow was pretty good (for a giant-bladed fan, that is). But 'funky' is definitely a good adjective for the Pinwheel...

And I think I saw one once... the airflow was pretty good (for a giant-bladed fan, that is). But 'funky' is definitely a good adjective for the Pinwheel... A local showroom had replaced Murray Feiss with Quorum around 1998. And the Pinwheel was one of the fans they had on display but it was not wired because of the low ceiling in that part of the building. I recall my mother saying how a fan like that would make her motion sick seeing those big blades move with all of the different colors. Ultimately this model seemed to come out before the big (wide) blade fan craze and also from pictures I've seen of used ones on ebay they seem to use cheap blade irons that make the blades sag due to the weight.
