I remember when I first saw one of these... but now it seems that everyone's doing them - even Emerson: www.hansenwholesale.com/images/savoyhouse/fans/38-330-FD-11-150.jpg . I guess they have some practicality, and there's a few of them that look interesting (i.e., the Casablanca Candolier), but for some reason, I still have mixed feelings on these... What do you all think of them? I haven't seen anyone really talk about them, so I figured I might as well ask

I don't much like the concept of it, caged ones anyways. To me it just looks like you're putting a portable fan on the ceiling in most cases, because that's usually what the blade inside looks like. One exception as you mentioned is the Candelier, which actually has a neat-looking fan inside. Then again though, it doesn't particularly fall into the "caged" category either, so I'm more okay with it.

There's one manufacturer that puts Craftmade Piccolo (MaxAir) fans inside a chandelier... don't know which company, though. I stood under a fandelier at Lowe's and it was basically a desk fan and small fan motor inside a cage surrounded by a light housing, moved absolutely no air.
