Why do you like vintage ceiling fans better? The reason I like vintage ceiling fans better is because it's got more character to them. Ceiling fans today just don't look the same and I think they look more boring IMO.

They tend to make ceiling fans look something like other than a ceiling fan.. Plus they don't make them like they use to.. Back in the late 1970s and early 1980s they were made out of heavier material.. Like cast.. Plus I like the variable speed fans which they pretty much did away with by the mid 1980s.. The heavier, the chunkier = the better..

While I still love ceiling fans I would have to say that I liked them a lot more when I was a kid than I do today. I think the reason I love the vintage ones so much is because they remind me of my childhood and what not. Fans today just don't have the same charm for me that the vintage ones do. Most designs on modern fans today have just become so strange in my opinion, as Adam said they make them look like something other than a ceiling fan. There are some models produced now that I like, to include some of the more "simple" contemporary designs (can't think of any off the top of my head) but if I see a new fan in a house or store I usually don't pay much attention to it. Now if it's a vintage fan that's a whole other story.

new fans can't do anything as compared to the old ones, the designs look so cheap, boring or ugly, plus the materials used are cheaper.. i noticed lots of new fans have their motor winding designed to operate for a 36" fan, but they use it for all blade sizes which causes overheating.. new fans also dont blow anything as compared to old ones, no matter how fast they spin.. some new fans are just super cheap clones of the old ones (mainly applies to indian fans)
old (vintage) fans are very well built to last long, some of them can handle the variable speed controllers without any issue.. they blow very good amount of air and look so charming! some older fans have wide blades and spin slowly, making it quiet and very efficient in blowing!
i noticed lots of new and old fans have the very similar power consumption, but one operates very well and another one just operates without blowing anything (USHA, crompton greaves, khaitan.....)

The older fans were made with a lot of care and consideration. they had good service life, performance and were physically strong.
fans today have become something like light bulbs, that is you have to throw it away once the filament blows out.
A CG aura which we bought in 2005 was retired in 2008 already. the ushas made today have skinny looking blades, rotate very slow and do not blow much air.

Like many things made older things have higher quality materials and craftsmanship. As well as traditional styles and colors.
Personally I am a more liberal in accepting some newer fans in comparison to alot of the members here like Dan and Adam but then again I'm probably ten years younger then them and grew up to another generation of fans.
