Started out at the Local WPB Habitat.. The Emersons and that Gulf Coast five blade were gone.. The baggy of parts were still there to the Gulf Coast.. The Ornate SMC A52 was still there.. The Fasco Charleston was still there and this time the blades were with it. And the price was only $15 so I got it.. Then to Faith Farm - Nothing as usual.. Ever since they built the new canopy, they stopped putting ceiling fans out.. All furniture.. Went to the Broward Habitat and Found these two industrials.. What do you know.. ANOTHER FREAKIN TAT.. I knew one would pop up again, but I didn't think one would this soon.. And some odd Southern Fan Company Gulf Breeze, that appears to have an SMC motor with Commander parts.. Odd but Neat.. I got them down to $30 on the all brass original.. All brass Hunter Original The Fasco Charleston TAT Southern Breeze GUlf Breeze Odd that it says made in China it being at least early 1980s.. Maybe due to part arrangement..

Odd... This Hunter Original has a reverse switch on the top part of the motor.. I've never seen one that has a reverse switch in this location, and on top of that being Revers-Aire.. and is in such beautiful condition.. The more I look at it, the more I appreciate it.. I can't make sense of the serial number.. I want to say 1985..

It's interesting you point that out about the reverse switch on the top of the motor Adam because the three PB Originals I picked up this past weekend from that Craigslist ad all have the reverse switch on the top of the motor. I thought it was a little odd too but I'm no expert on Originals so I didn't really think much of it. Great finds!

1985 brought about the first electrically reversible models and they had the reverse switch atop the motor; in 1986, the reverse switch was moved into the switch housing.

The ones that I picked up are from 1984. It's also interesting to note that while all five of the ones I picked up are from the same year, only the three PB ones had the reverse switch on top of the motor, the 52" and small white ones both don't have it.

The reversible ones are 1985, the non-reversible are 1984. Simple as that.

I'm no expert on these either, but if his serial numbers are dating 1984 and have the reverse switch like mine does, than that shows they started with electronic reverse in 1984...

The Southern Breeze Gulf Breeze is very interesting. It is indeed a SMC motor with an SMC lower canopy and Taiwanese blades and upper canopy. Maybe it's newer than we think? Maybe it could be from around 1989-1993? It could have been marked made in China because of the mixture parts like you said. Hong Kong and Taiwan are both considered half part of China. Notice is has an unusual size: ''38 INS''. Any chance the previous owners had two fans and mixed up parts, CREATING the SMC?

I doubt it.. And the capacitor looks really old (Oil Filled).. The mounting would be the way commanders mount.. The canopy/downrod/blades are all commander, Din Wai or something of that nature.. They even have the greenish white color like those from commander/Din Wai/Synlix, and the Motor has a more Ivory white like SMC motors do.... Southern Breeze was defiantly involved with one of them. Note: The Fairwind, Hunter Original Replica.. So it looks mix matched parts by Southern Breeze.. And I think by 1988-89 SMC Motors were much thinner..

They would have had to have this fan which is very common is southern Florida apparently: www.vintageceilingfans.com/gulfcoastfansseabreeze36industrialceilingfan.html...and a vintage SMC K36 but then it's funny that those Southern Breeze stickers are on it. It would have to be a relabeled SMC from the beginning. Does the lower canopy have the SMC logo on it?
