Actually, generally, the second example is called both "footprint" and "shoeprint", because they're both very similar. The first example is generally referred to as "GE-style" vents, because the first fan to have those was the GE. Calling one footprint and the other shoeprint would be far too confusing.

Okay...so we use different names. But for our little community on Adam's page here, why don't we juse agree on one terminology to use, such as to eliminate confustion? Why don't we use what I've posted because I posted linkss and all.

Why don't we use what I've posted because I posted linkss and all. Because there already IS accepted terminology, and yours conflicts. Not to mention yours is very confusing. Granted, it's very clever to make that distinction . . . but it's far too confusing. And as I said, "GE Vents" and "footprint/shoeprint vents" are already accepted terms, by collectors and manufacturers alike. I'm really not trying to come down hard on you, Pierce, I promise . . . but I had to laugh when you said "Why dont we just use mine, because I posted links and all" . . .

Hey Pierce: since you are skilled at naming vent designs (I'm serious, not sarcastic this time) . . . why dont you name the vents used in both Panama fans and Encon fans . . . I jsut call them "encon vents" or "panama vents"

Because I've dealt with you before and I trust you, I'll take your word that you're not being sarcastic ('cause that'd make you a pontificating, pretentious, lying bastard). The Panama and Encon vents...also those in the Hampton Bay Huntington III and Landmark II, are what I also call "Panama" vents because it was the first fan to use them. Great minds think alike BTW, my cute little Panasonic fan (see my post in Buy-Sell-Trade) has the (as I will now call them, God) "GE" vents. It's going right now, and I love the damn thing!

Because I've dealt with you before and I trust you, I'll take your word that you're not being sarcastic ('cause that'd make you a pontificating, pretentious, lying bastard). I dont think it any of those words are accurate, they just sound impressive . . . but it would make me mean, which I am, but not trying to be for the moment. The Panama and Encon vents...also those in the Hampton Bay Huntington III and Landmark II, are what I also call "Panama" vents because it was the first fan to use them. Yes, I agree . . . but I also call them Encon vents because, frankly, I saw a thousand Encon fans before I ever saw my first Panama. Reason: Encons were shown in Sunday ads, Panamas were not. When I was little I'd cut out all the fans in the ads. *Modify* That makes me think-- Encons with the Panama vents were around in the 80s? I thought that was a mid-late 90s fan, after Encon dropped the Crompton Greaves stuff and started sucking. But I remember cutting out pictures of those fans in the Sunday papers, and that was in the 80s.
