As you may have known, I got this little Sea Island yesterday. It runs great, but it needed to be cosmetically restored. Before: The finish is tarnished and surface rust is starting to show in many places. The motor itself (which is the same shape as a 42" Slimline motor) was full of surface rust. The blades were okay, but I wanted to use the plastic set that I have lying around, so the fan was painted gloss white to match. The motor was painted hammered black. Also had to replace the pull switch. After: I just threw those badges on there to give it some character. Overall it turned out nice, but now the bearings are noisy from messing with them.....go figure.

I'm assuming you never received the check for those blades? They do look nice on that fan.

I'd say, stick to the original badges. Paint the blade arms gold/brass and the vent holes black. Or strip the finish off the blade arms, sand them, lacquer them, and make it a white/nickel fan.

I was debating to make it a brushed nickel fan, but the idea of sanding the crap out of it to accomplish that makes me cringe. I thought adding those Verandah badges would give it some character and make it pop more than just having the original brackets showing. I still haven't received payment for the blades.

I can only assume it was lost in the mail, as it wasnt cashed.
I would still like them but I am in no hurry and you are using them at the moment so . . . I'll let you know when I need them and we can try again, if that's ok.

That's fine. Who knows I may find another set to go with my fan, cane or plain, especially since I live in NuTone country.

If you find any of this style (plastic cane) or stencil, in either finish, I am interested.

Tell you what, you can have those blades whenever you need them, I'm going to make the fan brushed nickel instead to change things up a bit. I plan to use the original blades so I won't be needing the plastic ones.

Well here it is in My custom Brushed Nickel imitation finish, I did clear-coat the metal parts, and also sprayed the blades to make them shine a bit. I decided to paint the vents black as well, which goes well with the fan. The finish still shows all of the rust spots, but that adds character and patina. The clear coat should stop it though.

Looks A LOT better in the brushed nickel finish than the white. Excellent job!

That's an awesome Sea Island!
Would 52" blades work on it?
