It is an SMC. I've seen a picture. Didnt know it had a remote-- maybe the remote is original. Those old SMCs are very good fans. I have 3 with the GE style vents, if anyone's interested. One is variable speed.

Save me one of those SMCs Dan!!! Are the tops of the motor housings dark brown and the bottom of the motors brass? And are the canopies kind of fancy(fluted)? Those are the very first ceiling fans I remember seeing. My grandpa used to have two of those in his shop, but they burned out. He had them set up weird, too. He took the switch housings off and used them on the wall as the speed control.

And an antique brass one, three speed, bell canopy. I was going to put up either the variable speed one or the brass one at my parents house, I'm definitely willing to sell or trade the others. Taking the switch housings off sounds quite odd. Did he have the reverse feature set up, they reversed with a pull chain. Would have required running quite a lot of wires. Perhaps that's why they burned out. I also have a spare set of blades. They came off an SMC "The Emperor" like Adam has in his gallery. Actually I have the entire fan parted out. Someone wired it to a light dimmer, and it went up in smoke. I later found out that only the capacitor was damaged, the motor was still fine.

I would probably be interested in the variable speed model, Dan. My grandpa also wired up a third fan with the switch housing on the wall in the choir loft of the church he goes to. They still use it. It's a 42" 5 blade in brass with the GE style vents. I could maybe get a picture sometime.
