The shipper decided to use USPS snail mail and on top of that did a horrifying packing job... This thing doesn't even have a vari speed control.. Has a date stamp of 3-17-1978, I was less than one month old..

That would be cool, it's missing the whole actual speed control.. Fan must have been bought without one and that was something that had to be bought extra.. I've seen Emerson fans without pull switches too.. Fixable? I just super glued the plastic parts together, fan broke in the most critical areas, where the motor housing screws together.. Even the switch housing cap broke, to where one of the holes is bigger than the screw.. This thing is even cracked in places where you would think wouldn't.. It was defiantly treated badly during shipping, and on top of that poorly packed.. Even if I am able to fix it, I would have to be very careful to keep pressure off the motor housing and make sure i don't set the fan on it's motor housing..

They probably removed the speed control and installed it as a wall control.

If they removed the speed control than there would not be a plug that fits in the space.. Looks like these were sold with an option to add a variable speed control..

No. These were sold with the cardboard variable speed control in the switch housing. The actual option was to remove it and use it as a wall control.. thus, the optional cap that came along with it. Tara fans are the same way.

That's a bit odd but ok.. Jeremy, for right now I'm going to keep the fan without the control.. I may need it for another one, seems like they are popping up around here now.. I noticed the rubber is on the motor instead of the hamster wheel.. The motor is also a Westinghouse still assembled in Mexico as the others are.. I seem to have glued everything back without any issues, even the little plastic pieces on the switch housing cap..

That's terrible that it got damaged that much in shipping. Glad the super-gluing worked out.
