Hi,
The model we are talking about is Hunter ceiling fan model # 20537, called the "Iron Vista."
We have two of them in the living room and they both came with light kits and the remote control package.
One of them dies and I have found one of these same fans on Craigslist. but it has the light kit only, no remote set-up.
Can I take the remote receiver out of the old one and put it in the "new" one?
Thanks,
Mickey

Can you unwire the receiver and see if the fan works? It could be a receiver problem.

Chances are if it died, the problem is the receiver.
Call Hunter and order parts.

As far as I know the Vistas didn't come with remotes, you had to buy them separately. I'd suggest either bypassing the remote on the one or else buying a new remote assembly from Home Depot or Lowe's and then installing it like you would if you were adding a remote to an existing fan.

Don't think these ever came with remotes. Probably the optional kit, replacements would be readily available at any of the major home improvement stores. Really doubt the fan itself died, Hunter's don't give out regularly, even the new ones.

Do your original fans have pullchains?

Trying to get the fan working again has been a nightmare.
Here's what happened.
My wife turned on the light and blew a bulb. I replaced the bulb and it didn't work. I tried the bulb elsewhere and it was fine.
So I went back and noticed that the ceramic bulb socket had was chipped at the top. I was going to replace the ceramic socket but couldn't figure out how.
By the way, the fan itself still works, I.E. the remote will turn on the fan so the blades spin.
So I ordered the piece from Hunter and it came with a new socket, wires, everything. I had a electrician/handyman type come over to do it.
He gets up on a ladder, holding the new piece in one hand and starts removing the old piece and he drops the new piece and the socket shattered. GRRRRRR.
We drive to Home Depot and buy just a new bulb socket to put in the new housing, which is what I couldn't figure out how to do in the first place.
He gets that done, installs it and it won't work.
He gets out his circuit tester and announces that there is no power coming from the wiring out of the motor housing to light the light.
We have two of these fans so he takes the light kit from the one that works and attaches it to the other. Still no juice coming out of the motor housing to light the light.
He's embarrassed about dropping the thing that broke and he's also frustrated.
I suggest he take the whole thing down and check the wiring in the motor housing since it looks like there's no juice coming out of it.
He says I need a new fan. I feel sorry for him, give him $20 and he leaves.
Now I'm just frustrated and say, "The heck with it. I'll get a whole new fan."
As I say, it's been a nightmare.
So what should I do? Reorder the piece from Hunter and find someone to trace the problem starting at the motor housing?
Buy a whole new fan?
What started out as a seemingly simple thing ... .

If the fans are in the same room, you'd need to buy two fans. I'd recommend the Stratford at home depot.

One that works and one that doesn't. I want to get the broken one working again. Why in the world would I go out and buy 2 new, different model fans and pay to have the old ones removed and the new ones installed? Are you joking with me? If so, please spare me the humor.

When the bulb blew, it probably shorted out the receiver. It may be under warranty. CHeck with Hunter.

This model like almost every Hunter fan they are currently producing has a lot of problems. Problems Hunter is NOT addressing, willing to address and/or practically ignoring.
From what I've hear before I was banned from posting on their Facebook page and told me to stop giving consumers the insider's phone number and email address to the CEO's desk is they were giving owners the "chance" of a new replacement fan.
Now, here's the fine print. They are gonna charge you $75.00 for that "new" comparable fan which is not new but HR (Hunter Refurbished) because the receiver is defective due to some EPA/Energy Star regulation with the wattage limiter which is causing all the problems.
These receivers have been on Back Order forever and they are no longer trying to order anymore from Rhine (The manufacturer of the receiver) to resolve any warranty issues.
Right now your only options are to accept their refurbished unit which might fail again and it's not covered by the original 1-year electronics warranty/so-called Lifetime motor warranty of your original purchase., or purchase a new NON-Hunter fans which I can guarantee it will be far better, trust me and consider these a lost.
OR... find a similar receiver. If you can post a photo of the receiver and remote controller, I will be able to help you locate a replacement.
It doesn't have to be branded as a Hunter. Remember, Hunter doesn't manufacture anything. Everything is outsourced and in the case of the receiver, it's manufacture by Rhine Electronics which is the number #1 manufacturer for remote controller/receivers and wall controllers for 90% of the ceiling fans sold in the United States. If it says Hampton bay or Minka Aire or even Monte Carlo, they are all the same.
They might look different in the outside shells but the inside PCB structure, is manufacture the same way. You're just paying premium for the brand not the product.
