Greetings: I'm helping a friend, who wants to sell an old Hunter fan. I'm not sure if this is the correct forum to post this thread, but the "Identify This Fan" forum states that its for posts where the fan model and brand is unknown, so please inform me if I should ask there also or instead of here. Anyway, this Hunter fan is a model 22206, catalog number 22206-003. I Googled the model number, and found no specific info. I believe that its made of cast iron, and the motor is oil-filled? The blades are gone. It still works, and was removed for a re-model. I have more pics, but don't know how to upload more than one. Can someone help with information about the approximate age of this fan, desirability, and value in its current condition? And are Ebay and this site the best places to advertise? Thanks in advance!
Cary

What you have there is a Hunter original. Very good fan. Your fan might be from the late 70s/early 80s if I'm not mistaken I have a 22272 like that only it has polished brass blade brackets. It depends on condition, a complete original will go for at least $125 at the least. They sell quick on ebay. More people will give you more info.

I can help you with the date of the fan. What's the serial number?

Hunter Originals are good fans, highly desirable to all kinds of people. Should sell without blades, but you're not going to get the full potential of the value as many people think they still can.
If you go the eBay route, you may want to just look up some other Hunter Original listings, especially those for used models, and get ideas of price. Your fan in its current condition should be somewhat below values of others, but once people start bidding on a low priced fan, a bidding war can often start and you may get more than you ever expected by starting low instead of too high. Of course there are no promises, but this is just from my personal view on these fans.

Thanks for the information, guys. Daniel G., the ID plate with the model #, volts, amps, etc. has a spot for the serial number, but it's blank. Would it be located anywhere else on the fan?

Yep, it's a Hunter Original. Very good fans; yours is probably from the early-mid 80s since it has the 'C' shaped blade brackets.

Very cool fan. Could be late 70s based on the canopy. Does it have the blades?

Blank serial number causes issues with dating. It's the only place it would have been placed, but some fans have nothing stamped there which makes it impossible to give an exact date. Very cool fan. Could be late 70s based on the canopy. Does it have the blades? He said the blades are gone above.

Well, not having an exact date doesn't make too much of a difference in value, right? Would describing it as a "Hunter Original ceiling fan, circa late '70s - mid '80s" be sufficiently accurate for marketing purposes? Would it be very difficult to find replacement blades, and if so, about how expensive? Would blades from other, newer and/or cheaper brands possibly fit, as far as mounting hole spacing, width, etc.? I'd give some consideration to keeping this fan as a spare, if blades and a light kit could be obtained cheaply.....

That description would get you people on eBay, as long as you've got Hunter Original, cast iron, etc, etc. you'll have it covered pretty well. It's not difficult to find new blades per se, because they are common fans, but they're not usually gonna be like $5 for a set or anything. Certain other blades will fit (Casablanca for example), you can even get replacements at like Home Depot that you can drill to fit, but those are SUPER cheap MDF that I wouldn't put on this fan if you paid me. Light kit is pretty easy, just get one you like at a home center and you can either paint to match the brown (I believe there's a certain one that matches Hunter's brown well) or just use like antique brass which wouldn't look terrible on a brown fan.
