You guys remember the Hampton Bay Tiffany Cardinal in my kitchen: Well, I had it running on low the other day, and out of nowhere the fan switched to high speed by itself. Now it only runs on high (still runs on high when set to medium or low), and then turns off with the fourth pull like it’s supposed to. Initially I thought it was the switch, but I tried replacing it today, and it did nothing (still does the same thing). I’m starting to wonder if it’s the capacitor. I looked around online a bit, but I can’t seem to find the right one. Here’s the old capacitor: The old one appears to be rated for 4.5, 5, and 6 uF. Any ideas on where I could get another one? I emailed a ceiling fan parts online store and we’ll see if I get anything back… Any of you got a spare by chance? If you do, PM me. My parents would prefer not to replace the fan if possible since it matches the kitchen really well. Thanks for any help/suggestions.

Sure sounds like a capacitor. I wouldn't think a new one would be too hard to find.

I'll look around in my spares to see if I have anything at all close in case you can't get a new cap. I should think you'd be able to find one though, I've never had to buy any...

It is definitely the capacitor. See how it is melted and "pooched out" in the first pic? It shouldn't be like that. 4.5/6/5 is pretty much the standard builderfan capacitor. Lots of Harbor Breezes and Hampton Bays have them as well.

I got an e-mail back from the ceiling fan parts website, and they said they have a 5-5.2-6.5 uF capacitor that would work fine. Do you guys think that would be okay to use with this fan?

The issue has been fixed! I ended up ordering a different one (with the exact same rating as the original) from a different website. Works great!

I was gonna say if you couldn't fix it as your parents to allow you to put up the Lady Delta

I was gonna say if you couldn't fix it as your parents to allow you to put up the Lady Delta That'd be awesome, but my parents really like the Hampton Bay, so it'll probably stay there. I'd still love to replace my Encon though...

I'd still love to replace my Encon though... I just found blade arms on eBay for my Tiffany Cardinal fan, which I bought used. Do you have the original instructions for it? My husband wants to do the install himself, so having instructions would really help. Thanks in advance.
