Hunter is not my field of expertise, so I need some info from a good Hunter historian.
I know the company' history--the mergers, the buyouts, the moving overseas, the whole 1886 bit, etc. But I want to know about the Original, and how it evolved through the ages.
If anyone could write a novel-post on it, it'd be much appreciated. But what I really want to know are these dates (in years):
--Year of invention --Years that the c-shaped blade brackets were used --Years the 36" was made --Year the 42" was introduced --Year the Outdoor model was introduced --Years Adaptaire was available --Years ReversAire was available --Year they went from 2-speed to 3-speed --Year they went from bell canopy to current canopy --Year they started with a reverse switch --Year they stopped with the curved switch housing and went to the stepped one (the one they currently use) --Year they started using the new, cheapo motor --Year they moved from single j-hook to double j-hook --Years the R52 was made --Years the pull chain pulled out of the bottom of the switch housing, instead of the side --Years the "OldeTyme" model was made --Years the "Lifetime" model was made
Etc.
All info is appreciated
Thanks

Ok, I'm a Hunter person. I know the answers to a few of your questions.
The original was invented in 1903.
They used the C-shaped bracket from the 1930's (on 36'' originals) to about 1985.
I'm also trying to figure out when the 36'' fans were made.
The 42''model was introduced around 1980-1982.
The outdoor original was probably started around 1991 or so.
The adaptaire, I have no idea.
The reversaire was made from about 1910 to 1970.
They peobably switched around the 1960's era.
They switched from bell to the current around 1975.
I think the reverse switch was added around the same time other fans got them aswell, around 1978-1980.
They changed the switch housing around the same time they switched the canopy.
They started using the cheapo crap motor in 2001.
I think around 1980.
The R-52 was probably made from 1940's to the 1970's.
I think they moved the pullhain around 1970, about the same time they started using the common blade brackets. I don't know when they started doing it that way.
The OldeTyme and Lifetime originals were both made from the late 70's to the late 80's.
I Hope that answers at least a few of your questions.

The 42"er was introduced in 1991. I *had* a brochure that had the introduction of the five blade, 42" and sail cloth blade fans.

I dont think all of this is correct. They used the C-shaped bracket from the 1930's (on 36'' originals) to about 1985. There were plenty of Originals within that time span with brackets other than the horseshoe. The reversaire was made from about 1910 to 1970. They switched from bell to the current around 1975. How can this be, when plenty of Reversaire fans had the two piece canopy? They peobably switched around the 1960's era. Again, plenty of two speed fans had the two piece canopy. Some of the older Originals with the older switch housing were three speed. Are these all guesses? How much of this is fact? Or at least, has direct evidence to support it? Dont make guesses and proclaim them as fact. This corrupts the knowledge base.

Ok, calm down. I don't know all that much about the originals in the 40's to 60's at all. I saw a 42'' original with the horshoe bracket on it. It was NOT a knockoff.

WEll, thank you for admitting it, instead of defending your guesses. For future reference, before you make such a post, put a disclaimer: "these are just educated guesses" or something like that, so we know that you're not proclaiming facts. A lot of what we know about these fans is just guesses, since there are not a lot of publicly known records. I've seen plenty of 42" Originals with horseshoe brackets, they appear to be from the early 80s.

Brian Hicks, do you have some factual answers to some of Pierce's questions? Inquiring minds want to know. All I have is a few guesses myself.

i don't know if they'll be factual but here goes....
first off, my knowledge of hunters from the 80's and earlier is mininuscile (or something like that)
Matthew, i have the same catalog (check out the group)
the year they went from 3 speed reversaire to the electrically reversible motor is, I think (and don't hold me to this as i am not absolutely sure) 1986
see, hunter made a couple fans to commenerate 100 years in business 1. an all chrome hunter original (electrically reversible) they made around 10,000 of these chrome originals and Bojangles' (fried chicken chain) bought most of them and hung three each in their restuarants. Today there are very few of these fans remaining in Bojangles' stores. Simply because of the oil issue and no one knowing about oiling them.
the majority of these fans have been replaced with either craftmade Designer series fans, Craftmade CXLs (not a bad fan) or Regency Bright Brass fans with a oval mushroom glode..
Believe you me i have tried numerous times to get some of these chrome originals, but alas everytime i ask about a remodel happening at a perticular store, the home office says something like " sir, there are no plans to remdel, replace fans or anything like that, GOODBYE!"
then there was the 1886 model (1886-1986 figures, right?) and we all know which fan the 1886 series was devined from The famous Tuerk Friction drive fan
(btw dan, I see you have a picture of one of those smithsonian tuerks on your group ( i saw em' too)!
that's it for know errr now...

I believe Adrian knows the correct answers to a lot of these but we've scared him away. Come back, Adrian, we wont bite! (Pierce has been muzzled).
