Hey everyone! I just got back from (another) trip to New Buffalo, MI! I was able to stop at that same mega antique store where I got my Made-Rite, and I saw quite a few antique fans for sale. Here’s what they had if I remember correctly:
- Pretty big and HEAVY Emerson desk fan. Probably at least 14” or so. Had three speeds and oscillation, but it was pretty beat up. Still worked, but they wanted $100 for it…
- Two matching (one probably 6” and the other about 9”) unknowns; they may have been Dominion or GE or something. Small one did not work ($35!), and I didn’t bother testing the big one since it was on a high shelf. I think it was like $45 for the big one.
- Awesome 6-blade GE oscillator, about 12” in diameter. It was in pristine condition! $57.
- A small Dominion-looking thing in dark beige. Looked a lot like my small Dominion, but it didn’t have any Dominion characteristics at all. Might have been GE or something.
So, I decided on the 6-blade GE. Looks to be from the 40s or so. Cat. No. 78X829. That one really caught my eye since it’s in such great shape. The blades are nice and shiny, and it was oiled recently (slight smell of oil). $57 wasn’t too bad, and I got a 10% discount for a total of $53.10. ;D

Super cool GE logo :

The stand has an interesting shape:
Super cool switch. : Fan is single speeded with oscillation.
The original cloth cord in AMAZING condition. Not a single fray anywhere. Pretty impressive:
Plug:
Here’s the fan on. Runs great!!! There’s a slight rattle/hum to it, but the air movement is very good. Still runs strong, and the oscillator works like new:
I’ll get a video very soon. Hope you’ve enjoyed!
