The descriptions are looking good..
Maybe a bold description would even look more professional like
Model: Bla Bla
Year or Era: 1986
Motor Type: K63
User Notes: Very durable fan.. Bla bla bla
and so on..

Any input on titles? I've seen little discussion between the most frequent uploaders on that topic. There's some that just do what the fan is, and some put the size in. I don't know how we're ever going to get everyone matching up, that may just be the way it is if we're going to have galleries that the members control. My two cents are: There's always going to be someone who will go in and do something different. That's why I don't know if it's worth agreeing on something and changing those that don't comply, because there will always be some that won't comply...

Yes, that is true, but if the majority agrees most pictures will have a description..

For the titles I suggested that we could do a vote for the different types of titles.
What I think really should not be done is starting a title with a size. It's putting them all at the beginning because numbers comes before letters and fans should not be classified by size but by model name.

I agree, starting a title with the size mixes up all the models, so if we put the size it has to be at the end. Basically we're between no size, or size at the end. I'd be with Tais above just to not go back and redo everything, but there needs to be more input, even for people who don't upload photos there, what's your preference? I know Matt also leaves size out and puts it in the description. It's really about if people care if the sizes are right next to each other or not.
Unfortunately there is no way I can compile a fancy description like that for what I've already uploaded, though. It would take me weeks on end just to get all that information together, it's not feasible to get done especially with school starting next week, and I still have like 1/3 of my portables to take pics of too!

for description, i can't think much when i am submitting the fans, i always omit the obvious (spinner type motor, industrial curvy blades...) in description i usually try to give a small hint such as the date estimation, location, or usually what pops up in my mind

I always just do like I would describe it in general: "Casablanca Zephyr Intelitouch 52" in polished brass". Like I said it's impossible to get all that other info in there now, my collection is way too big and spread out to update all that.
Also, I just loaded a bunch of antiques into the galleries. I still have more at my grandma's to put in, trying to get that done sometime in the next week.

Yeah I leave out the size in the title and put the brand and the model or type of fan it is if I don't know the particular model for it. I put the year or manufacture or an estimation of when it was made if I can't get the year, size, finish, and other outstanding features with the particular fan in the description.

I agree also.. I always start out by the make and then model in the title, sometimes the inches if I have two of the same fan but in different sizes..

I don't think that we should standardize titles...there's no way we're gonna be able to completely enforce it. I mean, I pretty much kept all of my titles the same, with the format being:
[Fan Size (inches)/Fan Make/Fan Model Name or Number (if applicable)/Type of Fan (Ceiling, Table, Pedestal, Exhaust, etc)]
So that would be like [42" Casablanca Lady Delta Ceiling Fan]. I suppose that standardized titles would make the galleries appear a bit neater, but there's always gonna be someone who doesn't follow the standard...

I get you, Rick, that's my point of view. I'm going to go with the majority, but at this point I'm kinda thinking just do your own thing since no one really agrees on one way to do it. The galleries are already great, and the fact that we update them ourselves keeps them very current. I don't know that we can ask much more than that, I mean say we get a new member with lots of fans and they don't read the "proper" way to do it. They'd be in the same boat as me: Tons of work to redo everything probably to find someone else messes it up again later. I'm trying to see it from all points of view, but these are really my two cents.

That's exactly the format that I'm trying to discourage in the galleries. It should always start with the brand first, then the model name and then the size. For the size present at the end or not it's not as important but it should always start with the brand first and not a number. I use a number at the beginning in the private section (member's galleries) for numbering ceiling fans in order that I acquired them.

For the description, I think it's okay if it stays up to everyone's choice also because that would be particularly harder to enforce everyone to do the same. The two things that would be important to have in the description is the size if it's not mentioned in the title and the age (approximation or precise) of the fan since this site is a lot about older fans but also newer ones.
