When I picked up this 16" GE residential fan from a AFCA fan meet down in SC, it looked like it had been through a nuclear holocaust. The seller told me he bought it at a flea market and he was just gonna take the blade and scrap the rest. I can see why, the fan was very very rusty and corroded. It looked like its been either in a flooded basement for years, or its been sitting outside. When I saw it I thought it would never work again but boy was I wrong. When I got home from the meet I bypassed the rusted switch and this bad boy runs like it came out of the factory yesterday. a couple of months later my father wanted to restore another fan so I told him try and take a stab at this one and he did. It looks great, much better than it was. The cage is broken in one area and there wasnt much he could do about it. Also I need another star knob for the oscillator to properly work. The base isnt original to the fan, since the old one was so far gone I just ripped one off an identical fan of the same vintage. Some pics of it before fan at the meet the sellers pic fan running at my house AFTER

Looks great and nice restoration, Austin, but what's the reasoning behind not keeping the blades brass?

Looks great and nice restoration, Austin, but what's the reasoning behind not keeping the blades brass? This fan was made during WWI. WWI era GEs did not have brass blades because the brass was being put to more important uses such as making bullets, bullet casings, artillery shells, and other military items.
