is the purpose of this fan? it is in my university near to the main gate... i don't understand why is it there and what is it doing there (model name not clear )

I've seen these before although I don't know who makes them, they're misting fans you can see the misting ring around the grille, they have them in some amusement parks and they do help out on sweltering, dry days.

Colin: if there were many, it works in cooling and misting, but the problem is if there is only one in the university campus aiming at the roundabout infront of the entrance tony: no, it is new, it was installed this semester....

Maybe they intended to install a few more around campus but ran out of money to get the rest?

that poor fan will have hard working life it will turn into rust bucket poor fan, i hope U as the fan collector will bring a ladder and lube it from time to time

Those are mist fans just like Colin said. They have them at amusement parks. I don't know why they would be there?
