The Taurus SEL we have at our used car dealership is selling for around $20k with 8k miles on the odometer, and it's a 2017 with the non-turbo V6 and FWD. Pretty basic, but it has satellite radio, Bluetooth, remote start, and power seats (cloth seats). You may be able to get a good deal on a brand new Taurus since production ends in the spring with Ford phasing out car production. They are pretty comfortable cars from what I understand. They're small inside for their size, the Fusion is more spacious

In fact, they're making a Fusion-based, next-generation Taurus in China. It's essentially just a stretched Fusion.

The problem with FCA and Ford is that they're shying away from car production (Ford is about to, FCA already has). The Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200 of late weren't very good cars, and the Ford Focus has a terrible transmission. I recommend Chevy or import (Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla). I think ultimately Ford will change that strategy and keep something or partner up with VW to rebadge something to keep some returning customers. The Dart and 200 were complete failures and junk, the 200 at least got the Pentastar Engine option but that Transmission has been problematic the entire time. I know a lot of Cherokees are hit or miss too because of it. The Focus was awful with the Powershift transmission as well as the Fiesta to anyone looking. I think Chevy will continue most of there Cruze and Malibu production. I think anything below the Cruze (Spark and Sonic will be chopped) and the Impala may go pending what happens with the whole Cadillac diabolical. If they truly replace the XTS with something rear wheel drive I would say the Impala and LaCrosse are done. Meanwhile Cadillac will continue to fail. The Corolla will last forever however I find them to underpowered. The Civic I didn't go with because of the CVT, the corolla one I could tolerate but I know 2 people who as soon as there Civics went out of warranty the CVT's blew. I just heard that this is happeneing. GM is shutting down plants, and the Cruze, Impala, Volt, LaCrosse, CT6 and XTS are being discontinued. They're doing it to push electric cars apparently. It seems like when the auto companies finally start to get nice cars these days, they discontinue them.

In fact, they're making a Fusion-based, next-generation Taurus in China. It's essentially just a stretched Fusion. Yeah I heard this too. I looked at a Fusion SE that has the luxury package (includes sunroof, power leather seats that are heated and a touchscreen radio with navigation plus dual zone climate control and auto dim mirrors). But I didn't realize it doesn't have the ambient lighting that I wanted. I didn't know you have to get a Fusion Titanium or a Taurus Limited to get that. There are no Fusion Titanium around here, all they have are SE or S models mostly. The options between Taurus and Fusion are pretty much alike, except you can't get rear heated seats on the Fusion or the rear sunshade. Although the newer Fusions have a rotary shift knob instead of the handle shifter, but they didn't add that to the Taurus, and it doesn't have the turn signals on the mirrors either. And the Fusion apparently has been updated on the front a bit, for 2019 and they changed the taillights last year I think, to have chrome insets, that I liked better than the older ones.

Especially when modded

It seems like when the auto companies finally start to get nice cars these days, they discontinue them. They're doing it to cut costs not for EV's. If you look at GM since Mary Barra became CEO they have been shedding stuff left and right, and they want ultimate more profitability. The Cruze may live on and be imported from Mexico where some are already built. It just didn't make sense to keep a plant open that solely made the Cruze when they cut it from three shifts down to one. The Volt makes sense and they're selling more of the CUVish variant the Bolt. Impala/XTS/LaCrosse are all on the same platform.. The Impala doesn't sell like it used to and with the incentives they put on it theres no sense to continue it. The LaCrosse I think will probably get imported from China pending President Trumps tariffs with them or something has to happen. Buick stayed in the U.S. after the bankruptcy because of its tremendous popularity in China and the supposed "prestige" the Chinese market looks at Buick for. I can't see them dumping this one yet rather import it from somewhere else (although I could be wrong). CT6, was a profit loser, you have one car on a platform its just not going to work. They already were importing the plug in version from China. Ultimately its cost savings and this whole CUV/SUV and truck fad that is doing this. A lot of people are not happy about this but when you look in their driveway you see an Equinox and an Escape where there used to be a Malibu and a Fusion. I want GM to succeed but I think they need to keep the Cruze and cut the Spark and Sonic. Knock Chevy down to two sedans the Cruze and Malibu. And stretch the Malibu frame to make a new Impala if they think there could be a hole in the market. But when you look at it I bet the Camaro will leave us in the next few years unless they keep it on the same platform. The real kicker is to this, they shrunk the new 3rd generation Equinox and are going to be launching the new Blazer.. Which will be built in Mexico, while all of these vehicles are killed off

I didn't know that about the ambient lighting. That stinks!! I hate the rotary shifter in anything. I know several people who have had it in Chrysler products and they were NOTHING but trouble. Buying a Fusion off a lease can be a bargain thats for sure.

Thats a first.. Go for the Taurus lol. Personally I'd go for the Fusion for many reasons.. Appearance, resale value, interior room, etc. Definitely so with the Focus, the automatic is HORRENDOUS with reliability in recent years. I believe the Fiesta has the same one too. I always wondered why Focus's were so cheap like a 2015 for $8,000 with 40k on it at dealers.. Then I looked into the transmission history.

I looked at a Focus Titanium hatchback I liked, but will avoid because the transmission.
At this point it's getting to where the new cars I'd want to buy is an Explorer or a Tahoe, or a full size truck. There are fewer cars from American brands I would buy, so other than the Malibu or Charger, I'd go with something Japanese or Korean, since they are still selling plenty of sedans.
I see the convenience of a crossover, but I don't really like them enough to pay a lot for one, and I like a bigger SUV like the Explorer than the smaller ones.
For that I like a minivan, but after mid next year the Grand Caravan is being discontinued, plus it's big and slow to drive.

It looked a lot like a Volvo S40 to me (that's actually what the chassis is based on), plus it was one of the first Fords to have ambient lighting and Sync available. Except I'd go with an 09 or newer since the 08 didn't have rear headrests. A friend of mine has a newer Focus SE hatchback, it seemed like a comfortable enough car to me, it's too bad the transmission is bad. The Fiesta looks like a fun little car too.

My grandmoms one friend who passed was a lifelong Buick buyer... Ford did something right, her last car she went out and bought was a 2011 Focus Sedan. She loved the thing. She passed the month after she paid it off my grandmom told me I don't know what it is but anyone I know who had a Fiesta... No longer does. They got rid of it within probably 2 years, IDK if it was the size of it or what.

I drove a rental 2014 Focus a few years ago and it stalled out on me a few times while I had it... I told the rental company about it and they said they'd take it out of service while the problem was investigated... the next day, it was out on rental again for another sucker to unfortunately have it stall out on them.

Well today I did see a 2014 Taurus Limited for sale but I think there must be an issue with the car, because it only has 35,000 miles, yet they only want just under $12k. Plus it seems to have every option including the sunroof, blind spot monitor, and even the auto parking, lane keeping and front collision alert, which you hardly ever see. So I think it must be a rebuilt title or something. But it's at a Honda dealer 88 miles away so I'd be afraid to buy it. It was a pretty orange color too with tan interior.

Keep looking for something from a reputable dealer.
