Me and J.J. Atchison are doing a trade. I'm gonna send him my late 1980s Nadair spinner 36''.
Thanks a lot J.J.! I been wanting badly a 52'' Hong Kong made Laguna ever since I found their existence. Hong Kong made SMC are soooooooo RARE in Canada. (older than 1989) I don't know why.
This one is not dated unlike later SMC that are all dated but I'm guessing early 1980s for this one.
The ones with the big shell badges are my favorite! We don't have those either. And of course we DON'T have fans with the little variable speed knob. Its something unique to ceilings from the States.
Lots of first for me with this fan. First fan with a little variable speed knob and first big spinner. Its my first spinner larger than 42''! My first fan that uses badges too and also my first fan with a plastic upper canopy too. That's not really a good thing though I prefer when the canopy is metal but oh well. I was surprised to find out that those badges that look thick and heavy are actually very light weighted and made of plastic.
It works really well. I love how it can go soooo slow and soooo fast. From 20Rpm to 230Rpm. Its only the buzzing that is annoying but the bearings are super silent.
It have the same type of reverse pull chain as my 30lbs Nadair HK made GE vent. The metal ring around it is really big and its very smooth to pull and it goes forward/reverse/off.
Like you can see I repainted the canopy using the same gloss spray paint I had left from the Banvil. That plastic canopy was yellowed.
It cammed with a light kit and I put this 1980s floral schoolhouse globe I had but I would really like to have it without light. So PLEASE if someone have a PB switch cap for those older SMC Laguna with this style of switch housing let me know. I WANT it!
Here's the comparison with the other Laguna I have for big laughs. The 1989 model made in China vs the 52'' Hong Kong made one. Lolololololol! The 1989 Chinese made one weight 5lbs while the 52'' HK made one weights 17lbs which is extremely heavy for a spinner! Its heavier than my Zephyr.
