Any company is going to sell what they have a market for. I dont think I've ever seen a fan in the UK with more than 3 lights. Maybe they're not as wasteful with electricity over there as we are over here. Maybe it's just decorating, after all, they like cane.
Personally, I dont care for 3 light kits. Fans have 4 blades should have 4 lights for balance. 3 lights works on a 6 blade fan I suppose.

Maybe they think four or five is too bulky and cumbersome so they would want to make the lights more "modern". That's what I'm guessing. I personally like four light kits. They aren't too big but they give off a lot of light.

You may be right, 3 does seem more modern. But the majority of the UK designs are very traditional and not modern at all (again, cane). So I dont know.
Let me tell you a story. When I was in 3rd grade or so I finally got my own room. It was a small den and had one of those "pillow" glass bedroom fixtures with two bulbs. Knowing my dad, one of the bulbs was almost always burned out. In any case, of course I wanted a fan, so my dad took me to Menards.
There were two 42" fans that I liked at Menards. The Hunter Low Profile, I knew Hunter to be quality. And the SMC DC42, I liked because it reminded me of the SMC A52 at a store my mother went to. At the time I didnt know that the A52 was also made by SMC, all I knew is that they had the same blades. I stood under both fans, and it felt like they both moved the same amount of air. But the SMC was $30 cheaper. For $30 I could get a Dimango variable speed remote kit to put on the fan, and make it go very slow! So I chose the SMC with the remote.
Then came time to chose a light. I was going to go with a basic round globe, because that's what th A52 had, and then I could make them look alike. But for whatever reason, instead I chose a 4 arm tulip kit. I also bought 4 60 watt tulip bulbs because that is what was called for.
We installed the fan, and I turned on the light, and I freaked! It was so bright compared to what I was used to. 4 60 watt blubs, relatively closed to the floor, compared to one up in a dirty shade. Shortly thereafter I switched to 4 regular 40 watt bulbs.
These days I still use 4 arm fitters when I want a lot of light, but with compact fluorescent bulbs-- save energy, better light. In smaller rooms I use schoolhouse fitters.

As you have seen with my Crest, it has 3 lights with fluorescent bulbs. I don't like it at all. It makes the fan look funny. I like form over function.

They make fluorescent bulbs that look just like regular ones. Check out the pictures I just posted under "I seek this fan"

I can't really tell because of the glare. Are they on the latest pics w/the blue room? Good lord, that topic is 2 years old...

Yes.
And yes, I think that is the longest running topic on this site, and appropriately so. I first posted looking for the Tara fan just a couple days after these forums opened, and the Quest is still ongoing.

But you already have one! Isn't that enough?!? (Presumably no)

Of course not! There are many finishes I havent even seen yet, not to mention none of mine are complete or in perfect condition. When I really really like a fan I want to find as many of it as possible. That's why I have over 20 Envirofans, at one time I was just as crazy about Envirofans as I am about the Tara.

Interesting that we're talking about Taras in the light kit thread, and Originals in the Tara thread.
As many variations as they had, I'd like to have. I doubt I have the money or the storage space.

That is so true. I actaully like four and five light kits more. Because it gives out alot of light and it makes the fan look more attractive and fancy in my opinion. I have a soft spot for them.

I have seen many 5 light kits. There is the one like the Hampton Bay Princeton, with 4 lights around a central light, or 5 lights next to each other as in the Harbor Breeze Lakeside.
Oh my god, scrolling down this page with my new avatar makes me dizzy. I stole it from the vintageceilingfans home page.

I like 5 light kits (4 outer lights and one in the center) on certain fans, namedly ornate Casablancas. Other than that I think I prefer 4. The 5 looks big and cluttered on a plain fan.
