I don't have a picture of the fan on me but looks like the one in I posted recently.
The thing is my grandfather came home years ago, and was in a bad mood and went to turn the fan on in his bedroom. He unfortunatly yanked the chain too hard and it came out of the switch.
Well I volunteered to repair it for him. I cut the power via the wall switch and I got a fan control pull chain switch and I followed the wire diagram carefully and wrote it down and everything.
After my repair I re-asembled the motor housing and I was so excited that I fixed the fan but to my horrors, I pulled the chain and the fan didn't do anything.
The first pull it hummed. The second pull it hummed louder, the third pull it started to turn and then it sat there and hummed even louder and then fourth pull nothing, guess it's back to off.
What did I do wrong? I'm sure I wired it correctly or maybe I got mixed up along the way. Was it the pull chain switch since I got it from Wal-Mart? I had the old broke pull chain switch but it got thrown away. It read the along the lines of L1 L2 3 and L
Did I ruin this fan? Is the motor toast? etc Would I be able to fix it in the future when this fan becomes mine when my grandfather sells his house? Or did something else just happen to break while I was repairing it? like the compasitor?
Another strange this is that the fan is supposed to start off in high med low but it now starts off humming low med high.......what?
The fan only hums and on the last pull before off it wants to turn but it stops and hums.
Help please!
