Hunter used to be SUCH a good company. Worth paying top dollar for. Now, everything has an el-cheapo spinner motor and parts. The Original is a piece of sh*t now. What ever happened?
I'm with Dan, Emerson is the best company.

If someone wants to buy a $50-$150 new fan, Hunter still makes the best for the money . . . but that's really not saying much in today's market. Are there really any good guality, reasonably priced fans on the market any more?
Most people want still and affordability as opposed to quality . . . or style, quality, and name recognition, as opposed to affordability.

You know, one of fans I miss is Hunter's little-known "2nd Century Original"...that was a cool fan. Anyone have pics?

I have a pic of an antique brass fan. I took at disney world (orlando, FL). they have hundreds of Hunter fans especially the Hunter Original fans. Although, they have gotten rid of alot of the old 70's original fans I have a ton of pics from there.

So far I've managed to resist. Perhaps, if they have cool 70s ceiling fans, it's worth going after all? 2nd Century Original was cool. Reminded me a bit of Adaptaire

Yes they suck, but once they were a really good company. and you can still collect the old ones, that's what i do.
The only brand new Hunters i have are some of the last American made Originals. These are good fans.
I also have 2-6-blades models from 1986., 2-Studio series, one with pull chain the other with remote. and one with a thin motor housing that Dan has a pic of it on his group.

That thin-motored one is a Hunter "Comfort Breeze". I believe that Dan is after one of those, in 52".

I'm after one of those fans aswell, and I don't think Emerson is the best comnpany. They might have a powerful motor but they're not much better than hunter fans on the outside. Casablanca, however, is much better quality. The last time Emerson made a "good" fan was in the 1980's

Casablancas are overpriced, and their new motors arent as good as the Emerson motors. Wereas the Emerson fans what still have the K55 motor, while also overpriced, are very good quality. However when saying that Emerson was the best company (and I dont remember saying this but I dont dispute it) I was considering their fans over the years, not jsut the current lineup.

Casablanca stop making fans with K55 because they became a property of Hunter., Hunter's plans was to stop production in the U.S. which was very costly and move overseas where is very cheap.
In Taiwan they don't need to own the factory, pay employees worry about insurance or search for raw materials., they have a contract with a company named Chu Pang Enterprises Co.Ltd. that makes all that for pennies on the dollar.
The real winner here is GE, which manage to own the same fan company twice.

Either way, the companies that did use the K55 stopped using it because the K55 had a lot of "problems" with it. A few years back casablanca recalled about 60,000 fans due to the motor. Fanimation had the same problems. I spoke to a dealer about it and they said that the fans kept falling off the ceiling and hitting people below it. So I'm pretty sure your wrong! ;D

So I'm pretty sure your wrong! ;D Andrew, use your head. What would the K55 have to do with the fans falling? Casablanca, Emerson, Fanamation, and Nutone all recalled fans, and all for the same reason: the fans were falling from the ceiling. These were all, to my knowledge, ball socket fans. In all but Emerson's case, the ball could eventually slip through the socket. In Emerson's case, the canopy was two-piece and could separate. In all the hundreds of fans I've repaired, I've never had a problem with a K55, which I still believe to be the best quality motor for fans (other than the Hunter Original, which is in a class of it's own).
