Whoa - I went to Target today, and noticed that they already had their Christmas stuff out! I kind of cussed out loud at Lowe's this evening when I saw their not-so-impressive but good nonthelesss Xmas display. Sears here also has a marginal Xmas display. And I'm sure my Target does too, though, they have it mingled with Halloween, like Lowe's.

Yes that's exactly what my Target did - half Halloween, and half Christmas.

While I was one my Nashville, Indiana trip, I popped in a resale shop. They did not have any ceiling fans or desk fans worth getting, but they had a TON of Christmas lights marked super cheap. I decided to buy a 50 string of clear lights. ONLY 50 CENTS!!!!!!! I couldn't pass that up. They work great. Dated 1991. Here are the pictures: [a href=" "] [/a] Close up of one bulb: [a href=" "] [/a] [a href=" "] [/a] Enjoy the pictures!

I would avoid rice lights. They're a fire hazard. I would also avoid older than 20 year old lights, especially used. Who knows if they've been chewed, abused etc.

Are the lights I bought considered "rice lights" ? I've never heard that term before. The cord is in very good condition, but I wasn't planning on putting these up anywhere. Just bought them to add to my light collection. I guess I'll be careful with these then. Glad you told me, Chris.

Rice lights are small incandescent bulbs (smaller than in the picture). They were phased out in the US during the 80s (I think). They are continued in use across Asia. The problems with them are that the glass can crack due to small size, and there are some manufactures that had defective wiring, causing them to malfunction. LED rice lights are different though, manufacturing of them has greatly improved, plus LED's are simpler in design.

Oh, OK. The ones I have are standard mini-lights. They look smaller in the picture than they are.
